(Asus Essence One) vs (Modi+Asgard 2 (or Magni))
Jun 14, 2013 at 11:26 AM Post #16 of 37
ok I thin I'll go with modi+asgard 2 or at least with magni because of money (even if people thinks that its volume nobble is not good as other pieces of what the  amplifier is made of).Do you think I could change something in this setup?I'll use them with a pair of dt770-250 ohm.

P.S. But what are o2 amps?I've never heard them?

I think if you are coming from computer audio or regular mp3 player, even the Modi/Magni is an excellent step up.

The Objective 2 (O2) amplifier, often paired with the ODAC, and they can be bought separately or together in one enclosure:

Yes I think so (about modi+magni). But what's the difference between the o2 and the Schiit products?

I haven't heard the Modi/Magni, but own the O2/ODAC. People on head-fi that have compared both have generally described them as comparable in SQ. So the biggest differences are

(a) the O2 and ODAC have been around longer, and there are measurements and more testimonials to confirm their performance
(b) the O2 and ODAC are more portable (when the O2 is a separate unit, it has rechargeable batteries, although the size is too big for your pocket)
(c) the Modi and Magni are cheaper

The reviews I've read tells me that they are very similar in performance. But for iem use, I would go for O2 and for harder to drive hps, I would definitely go for magni/modi.

Based on what data? Either of those setups should work well for 98 to 99% of the headphones and IEMs out there.

Based on the fact that I own a magni/modi and they don't work so well with iems(They hiss and are prone to interference). Magni and Modi also has almost X2 the power of O2, so that's why I said that they are more suitable for harder to drive phones. Part about O2 being good with iem comes from CliOS's review(he said they were dead silent). However, both of them are indeed fine with many not sensitive but not hard to drive phones.

As I pointed out in your thread, your problem with interference is likely because of your setup, and you should look for a solution. That can happen with the ODAC, too.

The additional power of the Magni is less significant than you probably think it is. It takes twice the power to produce 3db more volume. It takes 10 db more volume for a perceived doubling in the increase in volume. So for those rare very difficult to drive headphones, neither of these amps could be good a choice.

ok but in this way the only way to get something of good anyway is the asagard 2.This is not a bad solution for me...even if there's the problem to WHERE put it with the modi...mmm...

No doubt the Asgard 2 would be a little better. The thing you have to realize is that no matter what you buy, someone on head-fi will tell you that something else is better. Something ALWAYS is. I would encourage you to read the Magni/Modi appreciation and review threads, and the ones for the Objective 2 and ODAC, before thinking you have to spend more (google that equipment with "head-fi" as a keyword). You might find that you want to get one of those and save your money for getting other headphones :)

It is partly. However, Magni still does hiss. I tested it my connecting to a lod out of a sony walkman.

I have had the Essence One for about 2 weeks now....apart from the channel imbalance problem on the low impedance headphones at low volumes, I am loving it! The sound of the Essence One to me is very clean and smooth. There is also the ability to roll different op amps to change the sound characteristics of the Essence One. I have heard many people said that it sounds the best with the MUSES01 op amps, so I went ahead and ordered 6 of them and can't wait to try them out :)

I have also

I have not tried the other amp that you've mentioned, but from my experience with my Essence One so far, I would definitely recommend them.

ps. I have also ordered an Aune T1 which also has pretty good reviews here on headfi so I can try my low impedance headphones on the,
