Guess this thread is close to dead now with the SP3000 out. It’s made me wonder how manufacturers will keep up with software since a major part of the DAP is streaming. It’s an “unknown” variable outside their control.

Considering how big streaming is these days, I think that many manufacturers will adapt the best they can, or at least try to.

Yes but if your Android is 5.6,7 etc - unless you plan to re-write apps or the kernel to make sure your CPU etc is working… it’s not as easy it seems.

I hear you and I agree that being up to speed with software updates isn't always easy, especially in case of older products with limited computing power. That however wouldn't stop us from at least trying to make that possible

It's rather irritating that a device that is still available to buy, new, cannot run the latest XAPK installer and current TIDAL client. Makes me wonder how long before the most recent, supported, TIDAL client isn't supported by TIDAL's backend (or how far back you can go on the TIDAL client before that part breaks). As well as when other streaming clients will require more recent versions of Android.

Notwithstanding the increased size, weight, and reduced storage of the SP3000 putting me off it in the first place, the above sort of thing doesn't inspire any desire to replace my SP2000 with an SP3000 either.

Every "step forward" I see with more recent DAPs just seems to add two more reasons to not bother and just run a dongle off my phone. Sure, the DAP sounds better; but in the situations where I would still use it, environmental noise and distractions wipe out that advantage.
@JasonNYC Hi Jason - sorry to bother you. I own SP2000 and SP3000. I love both like many here...but SP2000 not being able to support latest Tidal version is very concerning. Can you please relay this feedback? SP2000 has so much beauty to let it sunset now...

I agree but I'm oldschool and will never sell my Sony WM1Z and Cowon Plenue L because I still download my music. These pure DAPs are already dinosaurs.

Hi, does anyone has this issue where the SP2000's DAC function loses connection when connected to USB and PC not recognizing it? It was fine for me last month but when I do it now it keeps losing connection. Most of the time I saw the pc recognize it for a few seconds and afterward the pc won't recognize it. Sometimes the laptop straight up not recognize it. Even when it works sometimes only one channel has sound or when both sides have sound it would cut off and the laptop would suddenly not recognize the DAP.

I am using a Windows 10 laptop connecting to a USB 3.0 port and I have tried different cables and did a settings reset but the issue still persists. Tried on another windows pc and it is the same.

Also will there be any firmware updates in the future?

Hi there, I am interested in the possbility of using the SP2000 as a roon endpoint. The Combo of lP6K & Cayin C9 lacks the Roon Ready option to be fully integrated in my roon environment at home.
I like the M17 for that ability and the DC Mode where I bypass the battery
But I miss the C9 tube sound... Using SP2k and C9 would potentially give me both, Roon and C9 sound improvement, but, I read about the battery of the SP2K being drained a lot when in Roon mode, is that still the case or is that somehting than can be tackled in System updates in future firmware updates or in specific settings without comprimising the SQ? If latter be the case, I would rather stay at the M17
Thank you and cheers,
Tomi

I get a few hours but never timed it. You can always use an external battery pack. Tube mode on the C9 drains quickly also.

If you have a m17 I’m not sure I recommend the sp2K just as a roon endpoint. You also need a 4.4mm adapter on the sp2K to get the most out of the c9
