Astell&Kern AK380

I think the technology has moved on. Versus the Chord Mojo & Poly the Ak380 sounded inferior, less energy, detail and a slightly raspy midrange compared to the Chord.
Funny you said that. AK380 came out in late 2015 at $3499, while Chord Mojo came out in early 2016 at $599. It's not that technology has caught on. AK never had the lead. It wasn't even close.

It is still a great sounding dap and I have the CU and amp that I use with my Roxannes, D7000, and LCD. I say if you have a higher end set of iems or headphones go for it. Otherwise it’s a bit of overkill.

Watch for import duties from Japan (unless this has changed recently) - buyers have been stung in the past. I bought a brand new (boxed / sealed) copper 380 + amp for around £1.5k from seller in UK not long ago - I'd be a bit wary about buying something like this from the other side of the globe. In fact, I reckon some of the newer, cheaper AK DAPs might measure up close to the performance of the 380 and there are deals to be had from official outlets - an SP2000 Black is £1,999 and there's probably some wriggle room on that price.

I've actually seen people saying even the KANN & SR25 compare very favourably to the ak380, as in they preferred them. It doesn't seem too far fetched as the technology of the flagship likely trickled down over the years!

how are the batteries in the new AK players changed?

Do you need to use a strong suction cup to remove the back lid and use a heat blower to remove the battery?
there are a couple of tiny screws, then a normal suction cup takes the back off - the battery just unplugs - I struggled to find the correct battery for my AK380 and ended up sending it off to AK repair in Germany as it had another issue (was pretty cheap) - they told me they could replace 380 batteries but not amp battery as it was no longer manufactured, though someone on here says it's the same battery, so who knows...

What’s the best option for transferring files to the player from an OSX device? i used an Android Transfer app on an old Kann I had, but I haven’t had any luck on my AK300.
