Radio Shack does have some pretty fat 1/8" mini plugs. Their gold-plated ones aren't too expensive, have a decent strain relief, and a wide entry. I'm using them for mini-mini connections with a ribbon style cable.

I'm interested in making my own mini->RCA. Does anyone know if 2 Canare Star-Quad 4 conductor cables would fit inside the F-12 plug? In terms of conductivity, it's probably overkill, but I don't have the tools or expertise to splice a cable into 2 leads and retain some semblance of aesthetic appeal. Thanks.

Just use mini star quad. Same wires on the inside, just a smaller jacket and therefore a smaler OD.
