I've been wondering if closed headphones have a tendency to warm up your ears much quicker than open headphones. It would make sense. Closed headphones block outside sound, and therefore block air from getting in as well. I'm sure the material of the pads plays a part as well.

What has been your experience? Are open headphones much more breathable and therefore more comfortable in that regard?

It comes down to the pads in most cases. There is still a barrier between your ear and the outside world when wearing open headphones, it's just open to the back of the driver in most open headphones. If using pleather or leather pads, you're ears will be warmer, velour and other soft padding materials will let your ears breathe more so they wont be as hot.

Nothing noticeable I wouldn't think. I haven't noticed my ears being hot wearing my D2000's which are closed, and have leather pads but I also don't remember my ears being cooler when I wore my old HD600's which are open.
