I noticed that the Archos 5 has Linux as operating system.
I wonder if it would recognise a DAC if it was plugged into it's USB port...
Anybody own an Archos and tried it?

sure would be nice, but as far as I know, it would require drivers that at this point Archos doesn't have. It does run on a Linux Kernel, but it's not an open operating system, you can't add anything to it unless Archos adds it... USB hard drives, mice, keyboards, cameras yes. And hopefully soon, 3g usb cellular dongles...

You may know this already but just fyi you can get SPDIF output from the Archos 5 when using the DVR docking station.

yep, great for home integration, no so much on the go... With the docks, there is full remote control as well, and streamable directly from a Nas server, browsable over the TV. Truely the centre of a home system...
