Any W1000 or DT880 owners here who actually prefer the HD600?

I think Jan Meier prefers the HD600 as a main headphone. But, from all the threads I have read over the past few months, I have not seen anyone rate their W1000 or DT880 below the HD600.

I want to purchase a full-sized pair of headphones soon (my stockpile of headphone money is increasing) to compliment my ER-4S, but am indecisive.

Living in Australia means that I cannot attend any meets for audition. I have owned the HD600, and like it very much so. I had to sell it though due to my financial situation at the time (I still go to school). So what I am trying to get at is, should I just go for the trusty HD600 (driven by a Corda Blue, and a stock cable) or perhaps the W1000/DT880?

Except for isolation, I think you would find that the W1000 will replace rather than compliment your ER4S, at least mine has.

Woah! Big call there!

Nobody talks about my ER-4S like that and gets away with it!

Hmm... Food for thought. I've also read before that the W1000 are a full-sized ER-4S. Could it be true?

Sonically, the Etymotic's are flawed only in the soundstage. The tiny headstage makes complicated passages of music rather hard to listen to at times.

You can see in my profile what I currently have. I like the smurfed HD600 a lot and have recently been listening to them to the exclusion of all the others. I did order a pair of DT880s today from Jan, but that's more about the way I am than anything else. I would least like to be without a pair of smurfed HD600s.

Thanks for the input.

So you'll sell me your W1000's for a good price then?

Jazz, you got them too? How are you finding them compared to your senns? Worth the purchase if you're a poor student working part time?

Hi,
From what I've read, the DT880 seems like a bargain headphone. It's price is lower than the HD600, plus you get that cool case. If its performance is comparable to the CD3000, the DT880 should have no problem holding its ground w/ the HD600 (stocked).

ooheadsoo...

Er... since I'm too old to put myself in a (poor) student's position (I mean: who knows how much money today's students have at their disposal...), I really can't answer this. But yes, I have it since Friday, and to my ears it's like an advanced HD 600. Just a bit less comfortable (so far) and beautiful.

(I wouldn't have too great expectations in the aluminum case, but the headphone is worth them.)

Jazz,
As a student, we are poor. I plan to get rid of many of my gears inorder to keep the CD3000.

If you ask me, the CD3000 rocks!!

Well, I don't have HD600 nor W1000 nor DT880. But I have HD580+equinox, W2002 and order DT880 just a few days ago. I'd like to tell my experience with HD580 and W2002, and I hope you may find it useful assuming that HD600 and HD580 share similiar sonic signature, and that the W2002 is similiar to W1000.

IMHO, I found W2002 and HD580 are very different sonically. Both are great headphones. There are a lot to like about W2002, it provides so much detail in music that it's very exciting to listen using it on good recordings. It's better than Senn in the bass department, very good impact. Mid-high's on the bright side, sometime it's too bright on the not so good recordings... With the HD580+equinox, I found it more relaxing to listen, music more cohesive overall, the very high and very low are recessed, but the overall tonal charactistic is still quite balanced.

I'm still waiting for the DT880, and I'll probably upgrade to HD600 in the future.

That's great, I am looking forward to your impression on DT880.

HappymaN, I think this is incorrect. Here's what Jan posted recently in his brief review of the DT880.

The DT931 has long been my personal favourite. It's fast, uncolored, and presents you all the details of the musical performance.

As for myself, I much prefer the sound of the DT880 to that of the Senn HD600.

my 880s should come in soon so it'll be interesting to compare them with my current fave, my hd600 with clou red. Hopefully I'll be able to get to the MD meet coming up and try the two on decent amps and I'm sure this is a question many head-fiers attending would like to listen and answer for themselves.
