I'm looking for a DAC with a amp, and has a similar sound to the Benchmark DAc, but cheaper! Anyone know any DAC like that (not used, not out of production, perferably not USB)

Thanks in advance!

This is a weird question on several levels. Why NOT buy used?

I was going to say an original Benchmark DAC-1.

Closest in terms of spec might be the Lite DAC-AM. Or just get any opamp based cheap thing and stick some NE5532/4s in it

By most accounts, the cheapest DAC that sounds like the DAC1 is the DAC1.

As 1UP mentioned, some of the Lite DACs are the only other ones that use the Analog Devices AD1853 DAC chip.

I would buy used, 'cept:

My wallet doesn't like people, and my wallet doesn't like used things.

I'll leave it at that, but thanks for the suggestions!

I found the Beresford 7510 to have a similar presentation to the DAC1, i.e. bright, detailed, and more than a little sterile. Neither floated my boat, but that's probably partly personal preference, and partly system synergy.
