i just fixed the overly large cache of neutron just by disabling album art in folder view. it is now my main music player again :)
Out of curiosity, what was your device's screen resolution, what was the album art resolution (on average), and how many albums do you have?

screen resolution is standard HD, album art resolution is 1600x1600 and the number of songs now more than 20,000 not sure exactly how many albums, probably more than a thousand

So 1080x1920? Or 720x1280?

You're free to do as you will, but with mp3tag you can mass adjust embedded album art sizes; as well as mass extract artwork if you wish to keep the higher resolutions on-hand.

I would recommend not having album art sizes that exceed the smaller of the two dimensions of your display, be it the horizontal or vertical pixel count (so no higher than 1080x1080, or 720x720).

Example:
1600x1600 = 2,560,000 pixels
1080x1080 = 1,166,400 pixels
720x720 = 518,400 pixels

For detail that the display cannot resolve, album art is taking more than double the memory, if not 5 times the memory.

it's okay, i'm keeping the files as is since i was able to just disable caching of album arts on folder view, all those files are flac, not mp3 on a 1tb memory card

Regardless of file type..
let's just say you had over 6,000 albums, and each folder had a 3,000kB cover art .jpg within it.

That would be 18 gigabytes of data right there.

You don't have 18 gigabytes worth of album art.

the cache does go up to 18gb if i play for a few minutes as neutron continues to create the cache while in use

I just don't think anyone else should seriously think they need to nix one of the few quality of life features Neutron's UI has, in order to run sanely.

I actually prefer it looking this way, without the folder thumbnails, same as the folder view of uapp, album art still shows on the now playing page anyway and it loads instantly compared before. And I can easily switch to other music players if i wanted
