Help me, I can't stop listening to this album! It's just pure awesomeness. Easily the best album this year. These melodies are from another world. Produced by Steven Wilson (explains a lot). I recommend this wholeheartedly to everyone out there. Listen to it!

About the change, they have slowly changed through all their albums, from heavier and angrier stuff to more melodic and beautiful direction. Though the themes of the songs are usually quite sad.
