I don't know a ton about amps but I am trying to learn some.  Basically I am tryign to see if there are headphone amps that have good sound enhancements like an EQ or at least a qualtity bass boost.  A couple of the devices I am looking at (iphone and new archos android tablets) don't have the best sound quality reputations and I am trying to see how much a total package price would be to get it better.

The Headstage Arrow HE (2nd gen) should be at the top of your list. Has two levels of bass boost, gain settings, crossfeed, and impedance. The features/value ratio is awesome. And it doesn't sound half bad either.

Try to find some vintage stereo receivers. They always have bass and treble knobs, and band-pass filters. Some better ones have multi-band EQ's. Also pan/balance to play with. Oh what fun.
