There are many factors that would dictate a recommendation, mainly your budget. The short list:
  1. ASL MG Head OTL - Tube amp, around $300.00
  2. Multi-loop/META 42 - Solid state DIY, price varies depending on whether you build it yourself or commission a builder and how the amp is configured.
  3. HeadRoom Max - Solid State, $1,500+
  4. ASL TwinHead Mk. II - Tubes, around $1,500+
  5. HeadRoom Maxed Out Home - Solid state, $1,000+
  6. Meier Audio HA-1 - Solid state, around $380
  7. Meier Audio HA-2 - Solid state, around $670
  8. Meier Audio Pre-Head - Solid state, around $985
You might want to check out the amp guide at the top of the page for some other ideas.

Around $300 you're either looking at the Meta42 DIY amp(easily under that, probably closer to $200, depending on how you configure it), or the MG Head. Both are wonderful amps. My Meta gives super extended highs and gobs of soundstage and detail. My MG Head gives luscious midrange. Oh, and with the MG head I have the option of tube rolling to give me a customized sound(get here faster, new tubes

At the $300 range the onlt choice is the MG Head. It is a great match with the Sens. Talk about bang for the buck.

THe RKV by Audiovalve is awesome with the HD. But it retails for around $900. The Melos can be found in the $400-500 range used.

I've owned a "few" MG heads and never had any realibility problems. Try www.upscaleaudio.com Kevin is great to deal with. As far as Melos. They don't make them anymore. The basic is the preamp SHA-1 and there are different variations up to the Maestro Gold version. All great.
There is a ne version of the MG out with a seperate power supply.

The latest version has a seperate power supply. Kevin Deal runs Upscale Audio. I would call him if you wanted one of these amps.

I think the earlier production runs of the MG Head did have some problems. I'm not sure if anyone has experienced problems with the newer MG Head OTL; I haven't and in fact, have been thoroughly pleased with both the quality and the performance. Though I haven't really compared this amp to many others, with the Senn. HD580/MG Head pairing I don't feel the need to. Then again I like the laid back presentation which a few others have complained about.

A few months ago I bought some tubes from Kevin at Upscale Audio. He is great to deal with but I would recommend calling him as he isn't all that prompt in responding to emails.

will do
whats this rkv someone was speaking about
it looks nice
but what would be better the mg head or the rkv?
keep in mind this is coming out of a computer with an audigy (dont hate me)
but i will be upgrading in the future as soon as i start getting a steady cash flow in
