Am I just unlucky or do high end IEMs have bad cables?

I recently purchased a couple of higher end IEMs and have just been experiencing problems with the cables within days of using them.

Astrotec AX60: left earphone was a little bit quieter and then barely audible.
Hifiman RE-600: right earphone not audible when the cable is in certain positions.
Both went out within a few days of usage. Sure I can return them, but in one case the shipping wasn't covered and it cost me $75 US to ship back since it was from overseas.

Also, after about a year, my VSonic GR07's left earpiece is almost silent. Shipping for warranty repair will cost almost as much as a new set at this point.

In all these cases, I suspect the cables are the problem. Because these items are $200+ US, I would expect better quality in the durability. Is this an anomaly or have others experienced similar issues?
