Hi,

I thought it might be useful to start a thread and reference source on what alternative ear pads one can use on headphones. Most will likely have an impact on the sound so do feel free to add your comments. I will start with those headphones I own and have changed the pads:
1. Sony DR-ZX701ip (alt: Shure 940)
2. Beyerdynamic DT770 LE (alt: Beyer velour pads)
3. Audio Technica ATH-AD700 (alt: ATH-A900 pleather)
4. Grado SR60 (alt: Sennheiser HD414 yellows but everyone know this!)

Ultrasone Pro 550 w/ He-400 pleather pads

Bass is decreased ever so slightly. Might be due to improper seal.
treble is increased. Nothing dramatic but sibilance may occur.
Soundstage is increased. This is a big plus for me.
Comfort is Beyer level if you don't mind the headband padding.

Comfort is the main reason I did this. The stock pleather pads weren't thick enough so my ears pressed up against the metal cover/screws.
