I'm currently using an Audio-GD Sparrow but was wondering if I could get a meaningful improvement, at minimal cost to change, by switching to a DAC-only unit. I need an optical input and USB would be nice.
In the past, I have briefly heard the Music Fidelity V-DAC and Cambridge Audio DACMagic (original) and I'd have to be convinced that either would be a worthwhile upgrade.
I have noticed that the Sparrow has rolled-off treble. This can be welcome with brighter headphones (!) but I think I'd rather the DAC didn't do this.
If it's not worth changing, that's fine.
Any thoughts? Thanks.
