Yep.

The only things grey about the K601 are the pads, headphone pad underside and cable. I agree though there is an impression of 'greyness' about the K601.

that's 3 areas but yea the phones/rings are black. do the k701 and k601 use the same cable?

I'm inclined to believe so. From the outside, they look the same and I see no reason why AKG should bother with using different cables for their high-end phones. They do their job well enough.

Bump...anyone? I read Asr's review, which said the bass extension on the k601 isn't that great. And one person just told me he liked it a lot with electronica(thx Tuhnu). Any more opinions on this is very VERY welcomed.

Thank you!

What kind of music is electronica? I might have some around here and not even know it.

It's been a while since I've bought a new pair of headphones... the K601s shall be my next fix...

Lately I've been enjoying my e4c's quite alot, and the K601s seem like they would give me an approximation of the e4c's in a full sized headphone, plenty of bass, emphasized mids and a bit of treble roll off.

Anymore impressions of them with a Headfive or other warm amps before I go ahead on these?

I'd recommend the K601s without hesitation, both for use with a Headfive and for electronica. No, the bass isn't the biggest ever, but it's more than big enough - I certainly wouldn't want anymore with the likes of Mouse On Mars, and with Orbital it was just right. Also the head/soundstage is terrific, and really gives a sense of space and movement with electronica. I upgraded to these from HD595s which I found dull by comparison. The K601s do rock much better (livelier, more forward, but still no Grado) and also handle intimate acoustics and large-scale pieces better thanks to how they express space. The only thing is that they will mercilessly reveal bad recordings - I have my MS-1s for stuff that's mixed and mastered badly, and I when I really want to rock out.
