So I've been looking around, and I think I've decided on the AKG K240's
I'm going to have around $200, I will be able to go over this though.
They're going to be about $115.
With the left over $85 I am thinking of getting a FiiO E10?

Would you recommend anything different to this for a first setup?
I'd look at spending about $100 on an amp/DAC if it is better than the FiiO.

Are there any better alternatives, that I would be able to get,
Within Australia, for less than $150?
Comfort is a big factor is my decision, I've tried some 701s
And I found them amazingly comfortable.

k240 are also very comfortable. There's lots of alternatives in that price range depending on what your needs are, but those are good all 'rounders for the price. If you need isolation, forget it though....you'll need closed phones. KRK's got some good reviews. I think they're closed....also the Shure's.

Those are fairly easy to drive. If you have a good sound card in the computer that might be sufficient until you decide on an external dac/amp. e10 gets good reviews and if you want to upgrade the amp in the future you can always just use the e10 as DAC, I think....but not 100% sure about that.

Confirming the e10 can be used as a dac only. A friend uses his e10 with an e9.

Really didnt like my K240's.  Really no bass and rolled of highs and lows.

Honestly I find the M50 to be MUCH more dynamic and accurate than the K240.

I've never used the ATH-M50, But I believe they do not have a great sound stage or surround sound, hopefully ATH-M50 owners will comment.

Superlux makes a low cost knock off of the AKG 240s
HD668B
HD662
Samson SR850 (made by Superlux)

Right now I'm trying to find a low priced used pair of AKG 240/242 to compare to the Superlux's

I find the similarities between the AKG and the Superlux to stop at the design.  Though they look similar they sound completely different with the Superlux (668b) sounding very analytical but technically excellent with a slightly recessed midrange.  The AKG on the other hand has a nice midrange and is much more musical but less soundstage, detail and poorer instrument seperation (technically the 668b is amazing for the price).  For what its worth I'd still go with the AKG because it has a nicer more refined sound signature.  That is my thought on the matter anyway.

what? the 240 studio has butt load of bass. it's pretty warm sounding headphone. i do agree though with about the highs. they are too relaxed for my taste.

True they are probably not the best in the price range but they have some strong qualities nonetheless and are still a good all round headphone, especially for a first good can.  I actually wish they were better because I like the sound so much but since I have listened to superior headphones they just would not do.  So I got some K601's,  which are better in every way.  If every other headphone in the world dissapeared bar the K240S and I had not heard anything else,  I'd be happy.
