AKG 702 sound

Sterile like the DT880? The K701 is the legendary standard for neutral, cold and analytical presentation. It makes the DT880 look like a bass monster. Nope, it isn't what you are looking for.

But that doesn't mean you shouldn't try it, maybe you'll learn to hate the warmer, lush sound? And that you'll learn to love the 'sterile' sound?

I love the K701(and the k702) but, in all honesty, It IS a very transparent HP and leans more toward analytical with a wonderfully wide soundstage. I would never call it sterile or cold-it is simply reference. From what you say you like and want in a headphone, perhaps you would like a Sennheiser...the HD650 is a very lush headphone.

DT880 is hardly sterile in my opinion. If you like lush sound, HD650 is a better bet.

The K-702 are studio reference, with best sound stage options...
I do mastering music projects with the K-702 and in most of the rock productions I open the sound and the stereo image, of course it's individual to each production... I do take advantage of the K-702 to improve my clients music.

From my personal experience, K701 is a clean white room where specks of dust can be seen. Drop a piece of metallic apparatus, and you hear every clean note accurately. HD650 is a lounge with full of plush sofa. There are less sharp edges in the room and all are so comfy. Some times I fell asleep in the lounge. DT is even warmer than HD.

The descriptions of the 702 in this thread is exactly why I ended up buying them, since I produce music. I am not disappointed although they are my first hi-end cans, I wouldn't know any better. Kinda makes me want to get a nice "warm" pair for when I am just listening.

Thats an interesting perspective, I would love to try the HD650 and the K702 but I have yet to find a place near me where I can audition headphones.
