What was the source? If it’s better, repeatedly and consistently, then it is better, at least to you. I don’t see why you have to worry about “it could be bias or volume not match”.
It’s not about the max output power, IMHO. The Andromeda 2020 drains nothing and gets very loud with everything, but it does sound different when driven from a G5 as pure amp. It was quite funny to see a fellow head-fier that I met a few months back kept A/B with and without G5 because he couldn’t believe what he heard

The guy? By ears of course.
That can be a good explanation why he heard differences.

How does Performer 5 compete with Thieaudio Oracle MKI? They seem to be similar in terms of tuning (with more bass in AFUL).

I’m sure all those differences add up to a vastly different sound. The P5 would definitely be less flat, and more V shaped. How does Performer 5 compete with Thieaudio Oracle MKI? They seem to be similar in terms of tuning (with more bass in AFUL).
I think that P8 is the one that should be compared to the Oracle.

Yup. Biggest difference being in the 3-4k region. Pretty close otherwise.I think that P8 is the one that should be compared to the Oracle.
I’ve had my P8 since June 6th and I’m still loving them. Perfect sound for my preferences.

I have a head-fi friend who prefer P5 over anything below the EE Odin. I personally don’t share his enthusiasm, but I think if you can get a good deal with P5, it’s worth it. When I reviewed this IEM, I was impressed by price/performance and the treble extension. If the price is lower, it’s even more tempting. Of course, if you “min-max” to get the best IEM, there is always better options out there some where. Thanks for the feedback, I got interested in P5 die to nice deals available.
