Hey guys. I'm in the process of revamping my system in preparation of the new games coming out, namely Battlefield 4. I have an Ultrasone Pro 750 which I like a lot and is great for music and movies, however it doesn't offer too much in terms of gaming.

I'm thinking of buying a new set of headphones just for gaming. The headphones I'm looking at right now are the AD700x and the AD900x. I'm leaning a bit more towards the AD900x because they offer more bass than the 700 without sacrificing soundstage and would have more of a fun factor to them. For gaming, what would you guys suggest between the two? Are there any other headphones you would suggest for under $200?

Btw, I have the Sound Blaster Z card:

Wasn't there headphones with multiple drivers to have true 5.1 or 7.1 surround sound? For gaming, these would probably be best... Probably not the best for audiophile music sessions, but for gaming, probably a no comparison vs regular headphones to precisely know where an enemy is. They'll also come with a mic, which again is a must for gaming these days.

ironically, tomshardware thread with lots of head-fi.org references.. http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/125266-13-best-gamer-headset

If you're really purchasing for gaming, gaming headphones are probably your best bet. I've gamed a lot with Grados back in the old CS days, and they worked quite well, but the 7.1s phones should just be on a whole different level for spatial Qs given they're designed for that...

well, the problem with the 5.1 and 7.1 headsets is that you've got 5-7 tiny speakers that aren't as good as one big one on each ear. and really good games like battlefild have binaurally recorded sound so that you can asses distance and position with a very good set of headphones. the goto headphone was the ad700/x but I'm wondering how the ad900x compares.

ah k, maybe you should consider changing the thread title then, something like "ad700/x vs ad900x for gaming." might give you better results.
