Active studio monitors for an audiophile: Neumann KH120 vs Genelec 8040
Jan 27, 2015 at 4:26 PM Post #4 of 4
Greetings PJ,

I had the pleasure of listening to the KH120 and the 8040, as well as a few others in their price range.  I believe you will find good info from Gearsluts as mentioned by the gentleman above.  Please also check out Sound on Sound.

Picking monitors is a tricky task.  You will need to share a few things with us before anyone can give you adequate advice.

1.  What type of music do you listen to?
2.  Will they be set up nearfield or midfield?
3.  What sound signature do you like?  Senn HD800 or Audeze LCD2 as a contrasting example?

My personal taste in sound (detailed, punchy, natural) favored the KH120.  The 8040 are harsh to me in the upper frequencies.  I can elaborate more once you have answered the questions above.

For transparency, I own the LCD2, Sony 7520, Focal CMS40, Focal Twin6, and KH120.
