Hi,

I was looking to purchase a new speaker set to replace my muddy Logitech 2300's. As the title indicates, my budget is under $200. I am not expecting anything amazing, but functional in many areas for the price, and certainly better than the 2300.

Here's what I have in mind so far (please feel free to suggest others):

2-CHANNEL

Audioengine A2: Heard nothing but raves for these.

Swan M200MKII

Swan D1080MKII

Behringer MS40

KRK Rokit Powered RP5

2.1 CHANNEL

Swan M10, Swan M12

A Few Additional Notes

-As I am looking for this set to replace the Z-2300, I would want something that would also be immersive enough the occasional movie. As in, how is the range on these speakers, can they handle techno, rock, and classical, as well as movie dialogues and sound effects?

-Looking mostly at the D1080's due to the price. As they are cheap enough, thinking about buying 2 sets and using them as a pseudo surround set-up. How are these speakers, in comparison to the others and the 2300.

-Do the 2.1's addition of a subwoofer make a large difference (the M10 and M12's subs looked very small).

Thanks!

You can get used older version KRK RP5 for around $200. AudioEngine 5 can be had for around $200 as well. I know there is one on Ebay right now for $220 - 8% cashback. Refurb with with warranty.

Thanks...they look quite good. i'll add that to the list for consideration. How do they compare to the D1080?

Different leagues. More comparable to the M200MKII.

edit: D1080 can be had for <$100 however so probably the best bang for the buck if you want to save.

Thanks! I am leaning towards the D1080. How is the soundstage on these speakers? Would they need to be complimented by a subwoofer for full effect?

Thanks! I've decided to go for either the Swans D1080 or the M200 depending on the price when I sell the 2300.

Moreover: I was looking at eventually pairing the speakers with a subwoofer, and am confused at how to go about doing this. I would buy an active woofer, like the Polk PSW10, but how do the power wattages play a factor when selecting the sub? Would 100W be too little, 400W too much?

Nice. Yes, I am quite certain i'll be missing the bass on the 2300's quite a bit, as crappy as it sounds. Not too worried though, def. going to pair up the Swan D1080's with a sub sooner or later.
