A friend has recently gotten a TubeMagic D1, when using it via phono to his onboard (realtek ACL889) it works fine, just as expected, however when switching to SPDIF optical he's getting no output from the TubeMagic, however windows and the onboard drivers report it working fine, after ruling out the toslink cable being faulty we've ran out of ideas.

Any help is appreciated, thankyou.

Check the bios, might be some sort of setting for the S/PDIF.
Or disable on-board in the bios, boot up once, then reboot with sound re-enabled in bios.
Update the Realtek drivers straight from Realtek.
Test the TubeMagic D1 from another digital optical source.
Get a used Asus Xonar DX (PCI-E) or D1 (PCI) sound card, use it's S/PDIF optical output.
