Hello All,

Making a final decision in going for the A900xs or the DT880 250 Ohm. Any opinions are welcome. I also need to find the cheapest place to buy either. Any coupon/price reduction would be nice. Thanks!

I just tested both, using an O2 amp. listening to the Bee Gees - You should dancing.
It's really too close to call.
It might come down to what your plugging the headphones into.
The A900Xs are only 40-Ohms. so you want to use them with an amplifier with a really low impedance or portable audio devices.
Where as the DT880 are 250-Ohm, which easily can be driven by an decent head amp. and they would be better working with receivers, over the A900X.

Best prices on eBay.
DT880 250-Ohm, about $200
ATH-A900X, about $231

Heya,

Both are excellent, it comes down to preferences. The DT880 has the edge in durability, so if that counts for anything then the Beyer will likely last longer and survive more mishaps. The A900X is closed, the DT880 is semi-open. If isolation matters at all, the A900X isolates more. Comfort edge goes to the DT880 as well. The A900X will run from virtually anything, so no real amplifier is needed. The DT880 will need a small amount of amplification, nothing major.

Very best,

Am I right in saying that the DT 880s have a spiraled cord? I have seen some with and with out. Thanks for the info!

BTW....any links to those prices? Thanks!

DT880, $209 (or make an offer), from ProAudioStar, I've bought from them before, zero problems.

The Head-Fi "Headphones for Sale" thread has several used DT880 Premium 600-Ohm for sale (slightly better then the 250-Ohm), asking price is just over $200 (make an offer).
But you want to have a decent amp. that can drive 600-Phm headphones

ATH-A900X, $231, ships from Japan.

But I would say hold out for used ones ($180?)

Very best,

This baffles me. What makes you say the A900X is less durable than the Beyer? Did you do some kind of MIL-spec testing, on both of them? Lol.

I bought the A900X used, on Ebay. They have lasted over 6 years, and still strong. They are very robust. They have survived many drops, pulls, and mishaps. Excellent quality. Made in Japan sweetness. For me, they are more comfortable than the Beyer. I can wear them for several hours, and feel zero discomfort. No "rubber band" modifications, or anything either. The Audio Technica ATH-A900X is just an awesome headphone. Can't think of any weakness. When these die, I will buy another pair, no doubt.
