Hi All,

Well i've been reading up in the archives about circumaural headphones. I want a pair to pull double duty with the 225's. I think I am wearing myself out - so I thought I would just ask. Anyway, I want something ~ $200 ish, comfortable, simi-upfront (between Grado & Senn). I've narrowed my choice down to the a900 & 250-250, but there are so many others I don't want to skip any. I thought about the 531's since they are getting alot of talk time, but I would rather have a current phone - parts, pads, ect available. I like the looks of the 880's, but they seem kinda iffy - not a general love for these. The AkG 271 / 501 - general feelings of lack of bass. Sony cd2000 - probably not. ??????????

I am currently using the Grado 225's and a PPX3. Most of my listening is done laying in bed. I love the combo for sound, but I seem to adjust them more than I want and even with the modified comfies I still feel the comfort is marginal at best. (in the long haul). I tried the 600's and didn't like the distant sound - otherwise it was good. I had the 595's for a while and really liked the sound, but there was a strange bump inside the cups that touched my ear in a way that drove me nuts.

So, does anybody have any advice ?? Anyone heard both the A900 & 250-250 that wants to give an opinion ?? Other options to look at ??

Thanks in advance.

I was just going to recommend A900, but then I saw PPX3. I wounder if A900 would be too boomy with this setup (I haven't heard PPX3). With my amp, HR-2, A900 sound just a little too boomy. Or maybe I'm just getting used to the brightness of CD3ks.

I think the guy next to me at work is going to order the A900's in a week or so based on my recommendation, and I have the DT250-250's, I'll definitely compare them if he lets me have a listen.

I had a pair of 250-250s, but they had no bass, so I wonder if they were faulty... they had 50 hours burn-in before I returned them. The sound was quite even and precise, I remember.

If it helps at all, i've bought/tried a few closed cans (Senn 280, AKG 271, CD3000, 250-250s, MDR-V700s) and read a LOT about them, and i'm planning on buying a pair of A900s tomorrow. It'd be nice to audition some 250-250s too, but shipping costs puts me off (US$50 in shipping even if I don't like them). I do remember that the beyers had smaller ead cups than other cans I had at the time, comfort was fine but nothing to write home about. Tyson - correct me here if i'm wrong, it was a while ago.

I've heard the 250-80s. I'm not sure what sort of a sound difference there is between them, but the 80s were darker than the A900, and seemed less detailed.

The 250-250's are about the same size as the Sony V-6/v-7506 headphones, pretty small, but still circumaural. They have about the same tonal balance as my Sennheiser HD600's. The 250-80's are supposed to sound significantly darker and less detailed than the 250-250's.
