In a 24V Morgan Jones / earmax are these two electrically compatible? (ignoring overall height dimensions)

Hi Kramer!

No, not really.  The 6GM8 is probably the Cadillac of space-charge, low-voltage tubes.  If you look at the data sheet, the Plate Voltage is limited to a maximum of 30V - same as the Millett tubes in a Millett Hybrid (12AE6, 12FM6, 12FK6).  However, the data sheet for the 6GW8 that you've provided indicates 250V on the plates, with a maximum of  550V.

They are not the same tube.  Like any high-voltage tube, its linearity and performance will suffer greatly at voltages below 250V.  It might run in the same circuit as a 6GM8 because the heater voltage is the same (6.3V), but since it will be looking for 250V at B+, it will always be deficient in a low-voltage circuit.

Ahh OK got it.  I was only looking at heater voltages, thinking (more like hoping actually) I had found a suitable replacement.

thanks tomb
