Currently I run 4 dayton b652's (the non suck versions from like 2011) and a dayton ccs 3b 3 way center, along with a dayton sub 1200. This is run off of a yamaha rxv467 reciever.

My limit is 500$ so I'm guessing I should only upgrade the left, center, and right speakers. Any opinions on what to get?

You might consider holding off until your can budget for replacing the four B652 and the CCS-33B.
I believe it's considered best to have all 5 speakers matching.

Also Yamaha A/V receivers in the RX-V6XX series and RX-A7XX series have better amplification.

What about if I up my budget to 600-650$? and my receiver delivers 105w/channel so it should be fine(40-50wpc with all channels driven) but still 40-50watts is more then most people use volume wise.

my daytons get plenty loud and there 87db sensitivity 6ohm speakers.

I do intend to have all speakers matching, but I could do something like get 2 cambridge s70's fronts, a s50 center, and then when I have more money two s30 rears

Surrounds are less critical than the front soundstage. Going with an upgrade to your front three speakers is the way to go. Since you already have a good sub, I would go with a better model bookshelves over towers. Look into the HSU research HB-1 with HC-1 center or Ascend Acousitcs CBM-170 SE with CMT-340 SE center. My choice would be the latter since you could eventually upgrade the front left and right to the CMT-340 SEs and move the CBM-170 SE to the rear.

Then after that, do a sub upgrade. Then finally an receiver upgrade :)
