My well traveled Glenn is back home and better than ever. Thanks @L0rdGwyn for the repair!

My OTL is still kicking after the last 11 years of ownership. My 5998's however are getting noisy with age... I tested them last night and they're still "good" but in the 60's instead of the 80's when I got them... I really don't want to fund replacing them so I guess back to rolling... Any suggestions as a replacement?

I suggest that you keep an eye on that 5U4G. In the GOTL, with a pair of 6080s or 6AS7Gs, it's maxed out. It can provide at most 225mA whereas the amp wants about 250mA or more.

Thanks so much for that! I missed that on the spreadsheet where it says
"OK when running 6BX7 or 6BL7 (2, 4 or 6 tubes) but not other output tubes!
(Source: Glenn on post # 27864)"
It seems the 5U4GA (sorry B!) is fine though, but not what I have.

Actually re-soldering the pins fixed my problem, both tubes test much better and the loud pop hasn't shown up again... I noticed a small crack at the tip of a few pins with the tube wire just hanging out in there... This is probably the result of me constantly changing tubes and damaging the pins.

Speaking of 5U4G, anyone here try the Elrog one on their Glenn? Crazy expensive, but their 300b MO are amazing and I wonder if that rectifier would be worth it.

I'm kinda curious too, someone here has to have tried this...

I've seen older posts about Melz 6H12C/6N12S tubes. Before I buy & install them, just wanted to confirm they can be used in mine instead of 6 6BX7 tubes which it can use just fine.
