Irc is still ground zero for most piracy. I'd still use it but same as @castleofargh , all my friends left. It was like the first episode of Overlord in my music channel on efnet, just me and some bots ;(

Haven't used IRC in awhile but I don't remember it facilitating modern content sharing that well. Lots of the older text-based stuff is on the decline for obvious reasons (IRC, Alpine, etc.).

I remember every major sub group having an IRC channel with a XDCC bot back in the day. Never really tied it myself, I think someone in this thread mentioned using it (semi-)frequently. Was a while ago, tho.
As for non-anime, I never looked for it. Usually torrent sites only have IRC for help/interviews.

for the music?
me: "lol skype, soooo old, lol."
also me: it's the first year I don't use mainly IRC to chat( and only because everybody moved on).
I finally got mobile data on my phone last week.... am I old?
On the topic of old tech, most programming communities are still using mailing lists and IRC for discussion..... kids nowadays probably don't even know what a mailing list is.

Damn nostalgia... I learnt that from Lucky Star poi
Many things can be learned from Lucky Star, the most informative and educational anime ever made.
Have you seen the spin-off, Miyakawa-ke no Kuufuku? It's kinda lackluster but still somewhat enjoyable.
