Don't get the HE400i, I realized it has a huge dip around the lower treble area/high midrange area. Violins and stuff aren't there.

Oh I meant having to stick another amp onto my desk along with my current one. I'm also buying a tube amp relatively soon which would mean I would have a total of 3 amps on my desk which is not ideal for my tiny desk

HD650 is actually a nice headphone for brighter recordings since the mids are laid back. Sounds good with Kalafina at least.



HD6XX drop will probably come back again, so there's always that: HD650 for $199, and high resell value.

If you feel that way about the 400i, then forget about the R70x. Just get the either Veilheisers.
Shame, for $199 the R70x is way too awesome.

  I did consider STAX but that would mean a new amp and all and I didn't want to have to stick 2 amps on my desk.
So HD800 are bad for JPop? They're quite revealing aren't they.

 
You'll make your ears bleed if you listen to 80% of modern j or kpop with the HD800. That goes up to 90% for western pop.
 
The HD800S might be slightly more forgiving, idk, haven't listened to one.

Well I decided to go with the veilheiser600. It will probably take me an entire week for me to forget the Q701's bright signature. Took me a while to realize that I might have enjoyed the veilheiser598 if I didn't have the Q701 next to it.
