Seriously, I don't get all the Kill la Kill hype. Watched episodes 1-5 and just couldn't get into it. What's with the glowing nipples, unlikeable (except Senketsu) characters, nudist beach, skimpy porn sailor moon outfit; the whole deal reeks of a low budget otaku fetish production.

I don't know why..but I get the feeling that your statement is EXACTLY what the producers of the show was intentionally doing.

Not so much of the bolded text, but more on mocking the shows that follow the same guidelines, like imocho! Though, that was obviously full of it, but I don't mind, it's funny.

If you're really into the whole fanservice thing, I'd suggest Strike the Blood instead. Likeable characters that all play their role well, nice harem, and stunning animation/art.

Hmm interesting. This also goes back to the "anime dying because of otaku" point. Some observations I've noticed though is that the japanese audience has... different tastes than perhaps the audience on a global scale. For example, they'd find certain things funny that other may not. Often, when streaming an episode for the second time on nico nico, I see comments about a "funny moment" that I didn't catch when watching it independently. This probably has something to with cultures and whatnot. Anime nowadays definitely does cater towards the Japanese audience first, the world second, although some series are changing that.

On the point of Kill La Kill, I really watch it for two things: action and humor. For me, the whole ecchi skimpy like outfits are erotic in a sense...but the execution just makes me want to laugh instead of gauking at mammories. It's like it's so erotic it's funny... if that explains it? Some might not find this kind of humor amusing, I suspect it's a difference in cultures? I'm not too sure on that one. All I can tell for certain is that it is comedic to my tastes. As for the action part, well it's that general shounen action stuff. I like it. It's not flashy in it's animation, but it's crude artwork somehow is able to invoke a sense of awe for me, and that's all I need. Honestly, I get more pumped up watching fight scenes from animes produced by Trigger's staff than from stuff like... Kara no Kyoukai or Fate/Zero, which is definitely more smoothly animated.

Pure Fanservice animes on the other hand...is sometimes just downright boring. Recycled plots. Generic lines you probably could memories after a few series. Which is exactly what I thought of Strike the Blood... Perhaps this boredom comes from watching too much of the same thing.

But yea, just my two cents. Thought I'd reflect on my anime life thus far.

And to get rid of the spoiler thumbnail:

Hai dandy, didn't know you you had problems with people making fun of your waif...

It deserves the hype

Kill la Kill is blood rushing, color scheming, anime satire. It's also one of the most intelligent shows I've seen this year. Yeah it does look stupid, and the pacing is out of whack (everything is resolved in one or two episodes), but that's the beauty of it. It's a great mix of action and comedy, without the painful cliches. Glowing Nipples, Anti-Government Nudist Terrorism, Battle Ready Super Sailor Suits, Middle Age Male Teacher Strip Tease, FREAKIN GAMAGORI IRA. The whole show reeks of satire. If it's not your cup of tea, don't watch and don't complain. Only those who've finished a series can complain. Just ask a Dog of Flanders.

Kill la Kill isn't perfect, there's plenty to complain about. I can watch it week by week, but if this was an old show there's no way I'd marathon it, and I probably wouldn't finish it. The humor isn't my cup of tea, I laugh, but not as often as I would imagine for someone where KLK really works for them. It's the same with Space Dandy, it's a polarizing show, you either like it or you don't.

And besides, KILL LA KILL is low budget, but did that stop TRIGGER from saving anime? No. Not for Inferrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrno copppppuh! and definitely not for KILL LA KILL. Sure on first look the super massive mammary parade and camel toe-vaganza is enough to balk at. So, I show you Zombie boobyfest high school which is even more blatantly obvious at that. KILL LA KILL took the other kind of balancing: make everything else over the top the same way, or more, as the level of massive mammary march (alliteration for the win \o/). I guess I can see why some people can not like it. If over the top silliness is as much as the fan service. And sure, there are other "better" fan service anime if that's what you're looking for. Pleb.

One thing though: while I can't say that the plot is original (most probably not), but since it's so ******* nonsense in a good way (not the logical contortions some harem ecchi person shows have to do).

Oops, I'm showing my bias against ****ty worse-than-licking-menstrual-blood-level ecchi shows again.
