www.firebox.fi has it. I think they ship overseas as well, but it's going to cost you quite a lot.

Catherine Paulsen? (who sung on the first Sirenia album) has rejoined the band. Originally she got kicked out for being the tour bike.

Been listening to A LOT of Satyricon's The Shadowthrone. Also a ton of Bathory's Hammerheart. Also been throwing on Darkthrone, little bit of Burzum. Funny... just bought a new headphone amp only to be listening to some pretty low-fi recordings... oh well.

While waiting for a friend I was browsing a music store and saw that Satyricon had a new release (new to me) 'Now, Diabolical' and bought it on impulse. (I was wandering around that store forever like I use to in video rentals with nothing interesting me "ah come on pick something for F sake!"). I'll get around to hearing it by the end of this week. Honestly my hopes aren't too high when it comes to bands well past their prime.

The only new (new to me!) metal sounds I've gotten lately is more mainstream-ish stuff like Mastodon, which is ok but...eh. Also, I've realized I can't stand doom based metal. It's the black stuff that I like most so far.

Now, Diabolical is pretty cool. It's very stripped down and not overproduced at all. Very different from Satyricon's older stuff like The Shadowthrone or Nemesis Divina as far as the overall feel of the music... but still a quality release for fans of the band.

MAILING

As you may have noticed, this newsletter will be sent on a rather irregular basis, depending on the current state of affairs of ELEND or ELEND side projects. This means that after waiting for over half a year you will receive many mailings during the next couple of months.

NEW LABEL

We are very glad to announce our collaboration with our new licensee ORPHIKA, a division of NOEVDIA dedicated to ELEND and its related projects. ORPHIKA will be ELEND’s exclusive licensee for the United States & Canada via SEASON OF MIST AMERICA / CAROLINE DISTRIBUTION. They will also re-release the first two albums of the Winds Cycle in domestic versions.

NEW ALBUM

A World in Their Screams was finally completed after two years of hard work, delays and postponements.
\"(n.b.:

The track-list is as follows:

* Ophis puthôn
* A World in Their Screams
* Ondes de sang
* Le Dévoreur
* Le Fleuve infini des morts
* Je rassemblais tes membres
* Stasis
* Borée
* La Carrière d\'ombre
* J\'ai touché aux confins de la mort
* Urserpens

You can listen to exclusive samples from the album on the official Myspace page (see the link below).

Contrary to previous announcements A World in Their Screams will be the last album of the Winds Cycle. You will find more information about the recording, the circumstances of its production, etc. in forthcoming interviews which will be made available on the ELEND website.

The album will be released on April 23, 2007 through HOLY RECORDS (France) and PROPHECY PRODUCTIONS (rest of Europe), and on May 22, 2007 through ORPHIKA (USA & Canada) in a luxurious digisleeve (Europe) / digipak (America) edition. Furthermore, a limited double LP edition on heavy-weight vinyl with booklet will be released through ORPHIKA (500 units).

MYSPACE PAGE

We would also like to draw your attention to the official ELEND Myspace page, which functions as an extension of the ELEND website:
www.myspace.com/elendofficialpage

Exclusive streaming samples from A World in Their Screams are already available there. Please bear in mind that these samples are presented in streaming quality and that their lo-fi sound does not reflect the quality of our production in any way.

THE UMBERSUN RE-RELEASE

News that many have been waiting for:

The Umbersun will be reissued.

After nearly two years of negotiations we have finally secured a worldwide license deal (excluding Poland) between SONY BMG UK, owner of recording rights, and ORPHIKA.

This remastered edition will feature never before seen artwork and a bonus track recorded during the same sessions and initially intended for a limited edition which was never released. The album will be released as digipak CD and Double LP. More about the release date soon.

Moreover, METAL MIND PRODUCTIONS (Poland) have recently released The Umbersun in a digipak version for the Polish market only. Please note that this Polish version, though legal, was done without our being consulted or informed in any way. We still haven\'t been sent a copy and had to buy one ourselves to find out about its average quality. This edition is not remastered, it does not contain the bonus track, of course, and the artwork featured was merely scanned from the MUSIC FOR NATIONS jewel case edition without access to the original layout files. We hereby officially distance ourselves from this unprofessional edition that was done without our consent while we were negotiating our own license agreement.

I saw the Metal Mind release which was what I was talking about earlier in the thread although Metal Mind now SUCK after they were taken over by new management.

Nice production, too.

Yeah I had a listen to this not so long ago, I quite enjoyed it although the vocals weren't overly to my liking, might try and pick it up sometime.

Just like to add another recommendation for Evoken - Quietus (thanks to Enverxis!). The music is simply immense and paints probably the most darkest and unfathomable musical landscape I've ever heard in a metal album. The guitars, the drumming, the vocals and even the subtle use of piano notes just has this extremely dense and agonisingly viscous quality that works so well. Can't say I've listened to many doom albums of this type but if I was to draw a comparision it would probably be Isis; different styles of course but they both share the same atmospherical and ambient characteristics in my opinion. The doom vocals are also very fitting and don't detract from the rest of the music which is great since I find that to be a problem with most metal albums of this type.

Great stuff, highly recommended!

If you like Evoken you should just go right to the top of the funeral doom food chain:
Shape of Despair - Angels of Distress
Shape of Despair - Shades of

All this talk of Elend......
I pulled out the latest album Sunwar and listened again, I am not really too impressed. Seems Elend keeps getting more ambient and abstract with each album, so I will not be going any further with this group

Have you tried the two new clips on their myspace page. They sound MUCH better; more Umbersun-like. I especially like the first one.

Quietus is alot different from The Antithesis of Light, doesn't really sound anything like Shape of Despair, but nonetheless SoD are worth checking out.

edit:

The new After Forever album (Self Titled) has leaked, due to be released on April 21st 2007 via Nuclear Blast records.
Despite the last two albums not being up to par with the first two, this one according to a friend of mine competes with Decipher directly, perhaps even surpasses it.
I shall get back to you guys on what it's like when I acquire it.
