The Brooklyn is indeed a surprise when you see the size of it. But, for a little box, it made a MIGHTY sound.
Don't need stuff, but it was pretty tempting...

Well, I'm pretty new to the audiophile world and made a last minute decision to stop by yesterday as I live a two hour bus ride away and didn't really have anything planned for the day. Went in looking for a set of IEM's and walked away with the 1More triple drivers for $85. These things just sounded way too good for the amount they were asking, after trying IEM's from pretty much every table the only ones I liked better were several times the price. The packaging and accessories they come with is also pretty crazy, I felt like I had just dropped a grand on these while I was unboxing them. That alone was worth the trip.

I also took the opportunity to try out several pairs of headphones. I think I have gotten too used to my hd 650's as many cans and IEM's that I tried just sounded a bit too harsh in the high's for me. The ones that really blew me away were the focal utopia and elear headphones. I had to walk away for fear of making some very poor financial decisions. I also got to compare the 650's to the 800's and 800S from sennheiser and I really liked the extra detail that they brought out in the music. Also got to try the 650's with the schiit valhalla and really liked how they made them sound. Some of the hifiman's sounded really good as well.

I'll probably stop by next year as well if the event happens again. Maybe by then I'll be ready for an upgrade.

I was there both days, and I can't believe I still missed a long list of things I should have checked out (from the impressions being posted here).
After a few hours, fatigue kicks-in (more mental than physical) and it's hard to stick to a schedule and stay organized.

Amazing job by the organizers/vendors and *thanks to everyone* who made this happen !
Let's hope this becomes an annual event in NYC (can we make this happen )

Thanks to everyone who came out and made CanJam NYC as impressive as I expected. Lots of great fun happned at the HeadAmp booth, and we were glad to spoil the crowd with some of the finest headphone options on the market. Lookong forward to Singapore, and yes, to the person who asked earlier, we will have the Stax 007 there.

As a long time lover and twice-owner of the HD 650 I can positively say that the Focal Elear is a worthy upgrade and would totally be a wise financial decision! Just open your heart and wallet...

Campfire Audio was the stand out for me. Their team was helpful and humble and almost caused me to walk out with a Lyra II. I'll be saving up for a set of these real soon.

Another standout, to me, was Periodic audio. The beryllium model was incredible!

100% agree. Their team was one of the most friendly and helpful teams there.

A majority of my time was spent listening to the Z1R/Utopia. i got so hooked on those 2 cans. And i finally heard the HD800-S. And i loved it as well. I actually liked the bass coming out of it. Nice comfortable can.

Don't need stuff, but it was pretty tempting...

This was my first CanJam and I really enjoyed myself.  I convinced two of my non audiophile buddies to join me and they happen to like it too.  One of them commented on how playing music on his phone sounds like crap without the Audeze iSine 20 with the cipher cable.

Highlights/Impressions for me:
  1. Audeze: I tried both the iSine 10 and 20.  The iSine 20 is the clear winner.  Despite it being open, it did block out quite a bit of noise from the showroom floor. Also tried the HTC Vive with iSine 20.  I lot of fun and they were very immersive.  LCD-4 was as good as I imagined.  It was the first time I've listened to an open back headphone.  That being said, I definitely can't get a pair with my current listening situation at home.
  2. Noble: Listened to the 9-driver Katana.  To my ears sounded like a full-size closed back headphone.  Really fantastic.  I understand why people back to get custom molded ones though.  I had to really hold them in place in my ears because the available tips didn't fit quite right.  Still impressive nonetheless!
  3. Schiit: Got to listen to music with the Jotunheim (with DAC) connected to a pair of Mr. Speakers ETHER C Flow.  Sounded great and would've been a worthy upgrade to my Apogee Groove and possible my end game DAC amp.  That is until:
  4. Mytek: The Brooklyn.  Not as large as it looked in reviews.  The Brooklyn was connected to Sony's MDR Z1R.  Luckily the the computer it was connected to had a good assortment of music that I know very well in its Roon library. DAMN that sounded amazing! Very impressed at the details it brought out. Definitely going to save my pennies for one! Even my non audiophile friends that it sounded amazing and was worth the price.  That's enough of an endorsement for me!
  5. Sennheiser:  Listened to the HD800S.  Definitely not a fan of the Sennheiser sound.  I also didn't like how the ear cups fit on my head.
  6. Audioquest: I've been wanting to listen to the Nightowl Carbon for awhile.  From what I've read in the past, the Nighthawk/Nightowl sound is divisive.  I for one, didn't like it at all. That being said, they were very comfortable.
  7. Sony: Very impressed with the fit and finish of the MDR-Z1R.  Sounds amazing too.

Overall loved being around other like minded people and getting to interact with the manufacturers.  Next time there's a CanJam in NYC, I'll be there! Thank you to all who made it possible!

Nice to know i was not alone who enjoyed Brooklyn DAC. The synergy was great with Z1R. I also enjoyed Woo WA8 Eclipse with 800S and Utopia and spent most of my time with these gears.
After listening to all these Over ear cans i went to Campfire Audio and tried Andromeda but somehow i didn't enjoy it a lot. May be my expectations were too high or just had fatigue after listening to Utopia, Z1R, 800S but although i liked the soundstage of the IEM and the midrange in them but somehow i missed the body and overall presentation which i got from Over Ear cans but i guess one shouldn't expect Andromeda to compare with utopia

ya i enjoyed them a lot in Woo Audio room.
I guess that was the room to be for long and quiet listening experience.
Really enjoyed 800S/Utopia/Z1R with woo setup.
the weight and comfort of 800S is just out of the world and can't be compared to anything else.

Senn table was busy whenever I was in the area, didn't get to listen to the stuff there (but it is usually around at meets)
Wanted to hear the Yggy, also had too much traffic whenever I was in the area to check it out. Brooklyn and Yggy seem to be 2 highly regarded amp/dacs in the general ballpark pricewise.

Steve Guttenberg was nice to chat with. Met up with some folks from meets, was nice to see everyone.

i loved Brooklyn DAC a lot.
it was like I would listen to a song on it, get up, go around the floor and again listed to a song on it and then repeat the process :)
I was hoping that they give me some discount for my love for their DAC

I think I'd be buying one of these (with the Mojo audio Mystique, which I think Dan of Mr Speakers fame was using, along with the Cavalli Liquid Gold and another tubed Cavalli, making beautiful music with his Aeon, hard to separate out what was causing what, but it really sounded nice). Love the new cans from Zach/ZMF, and, of course, I'm Mr. ZOTL, so you know I like that stuff...

If only I didn't sell my soul to LH Labs...

Did anyone catch Trinity Audio? I saw them on the list, but not the booth.

I didn't see Trinity either.

For some reason i liked the Utopia pairing with the Headamp pairing. And the Queststyle amp more. The headamp pairing made me smile. I was like... Wow this is awesome. I thoroughly enjoyed my time like never before with music. This was my cherry popping exhibit experience.
