Some peculiar people on this audio hobby website, seem to really get bothered over simple things... look when the rest of the world pay a significant difference in price for the same product, I may potentially buy, do I want it the equivalent? Of course... same as I believe the world should deal in relative pricing across the board.

Have I really come across as though I have a sense of entitlement at the detriment of fiio? Lol, seriously. I already said no doubt it will still be considered good value.

When the US pay around £320 for the same product I have to pay significantly more for, isn't human logic to question why there's such a vast difference?

Im not really bothered in the big picture, Im mainly considering DX200, this x5 iii just sounds interesting, I wonder how much of a price difference there will be between the 2 come sales time in UK.

Will keep following the thread to get peoples opinions on this DAP. Personally, I would go for red, pretty cool and stands out to all other daps that go with black, gunmetal etc

Yes, but it's more difficult to understand when I'm seeing that DX200 has a retail price of $869, and the official retailer in Spain is taking pre-orders at 869€. Yes, different companies, but same market. I could understand a 10% jump but, at this price, I'm feeling something is not very fair.

You seem to be forgetting that European countries add a large percetage VAT tax(is it around 17% or so?)This is built into the retail price. While some other manufacturers might be willing to "eat" the vat tax, and price their goods lower to European dealers than to US dealers, most probably won't be willing to do this.

VAT rates are around 20% and higher (some lower) according to what I see.

Living in Canada, quite often the price is higher for us than a straight US dollar conversion. I've lived with it my whole life and am particularly frustrated because I live 20 min from the US boarder. It happens and there's nothing I can do about it besides vote with my wallet if it bothers me.

Anyway, it's like this for every. single. launch. Can we move past the pages of discussion of the prices in different regions? Every region will have different import fees, tax, shipping, etc., added. The discussion adds nothing to the thread and it won't change the pricing, so let's please move on.

It's also worth considering how lucky we are to be able to buy such a device that is Android based, can store a lot of music, stream from a computer, be used as a USB DAC and can use services such as TIDAL. It wasn't long ago that this was impossible.

I know that, obviously, but then the percentages should be more or less similar, and they don't. An X1 II price in Fiio's official Aliexpress store is $120, exactly the same price it costs in euros in the official spanish distributor (no special deal, it's retail price).

Anyway, final price in Spain is 450€, that, at least, seems more reasonable. 489 was a nonsense.

Agreed, and well said. Excited about this device, I am.

Actually like the incognito of 'just another cheap Chinese electronic gizmo' that dissuades people from trying to nick it.

Those sexy Astell & Kern and Sony DAPS would have me paranoid that they'd walk off...

Ironic, since you'd have been taken for a ride if you bought one

Although I'm a little disappointed at the notion that the X5iii sound might have been 'warmed', rather than tuned as transparent as possible, I applaud the amount of functionality Fiio has crammed into this device, for the money. Seems Pioneer/Onkyo will have some competition!

Hey don't feel bad,  Canada is right next door to the US and we pay significantly more for alot of stuff including electronics.  Most of it gets imported into the US first and then it is trucked to Canada so it is imported twice.  Factor in the exchange rate, duties and customs and it can get insane.  The X7 goes for about $600.00 in the US vs $879.00 in Canada and one store had it for $950.00.

So $400.00 US for the X5-III so about $530.00 CAN.  And alot of stuff we can't even get here and have to import from the US which can cost even more.  Sorry but I don't feel bad when other countries have to pay a little more in fact it makes me feel a little better

As an aside; has anyone used those micro -> full sized adapters and can comment as to whether they are slim enough to fit sandwiched between a DAP and amp using those rubber feet that come in Fiio stacking kits?

A touch warm works for me; I use my M70X quite a bit nowadays as my out and about headphones. I had considered the Pioneer (don't need the balanced output on the Oynko) but reviews about it were not overwhelming and I was really hoping Fiio got an X7ii out. This X5iii came out of left field and covers my bases though.

I understand about being taken for a ride...but also know that sometimes hearts win out over heads.
