Campfire Audio Vega (and Dorado and Lyra II) - Head-Fi TV

If the Vega is anything like my Lyra, it will take quite a few hours to reach it's design potential. The Lyra is the only one of the CA phones that I really noticed changing with time and I have owned all of them at one time or another.

I'm hearing the same thing with the Vegas. I don't want to give sound impressions until they've settled more.

I am looking forward to trying these earphones at this weekends Fujiya Avic Headphone show in Tokyo.

Great impressions mscott

Hi Expat, I'd be interested in your impression compared to the Dita Truth which I believe you have some experience. I've just started listening to the Truths after months of only using Ken's Jupiters.

The Vega sounds like it is the best single driver IEM ever created.
Looking forward to read more impressions about it.
Has it been mentioned the burn in time required to sound best? The build quality is at the top from what i can see in the video, but i have small ears and i want comfort also, like Westone ones. How comfortable is Andromeda for example?

Ken told me to burn it  in for two to three days.

The Vega is easily the most comfortable IEM I own.  I thought the fit of both the Jupiter or Andromeda was excellent, but the Vega is noticeably smaller and that much more comfortable.  And even though the IE800 is smaller than anything CA has produced, I'm constantly adjusting it to stay put due to the straight down design.

Yeah, at least a day or two of burn-in to start for the DD, then they will likely continue to settle in incrementally with further time. Ken did some testing and you can actually see the change in FR over time, at least with the Dorado's DD.

That's amazing. Never knew a change in FR can actually happen over time.

On the Dorado's there's no filter on the dynamic driver so it also plays in the HF spectrum where the balanced armatures take lead. As the DD settles in it becomes more coherent with the two BA's. It's a unique approach to a hybrid IEM. Cheers

Pretty sure it's MMCX. All of CA's stuff seems to use their proprietary MMCX cables.

Right, but the stock cabe is some sort of beryllium copper alloy or something. So it retains the benefits of MMCX (swivel design) but isn't as prone to shorting out which is a much documented mechanical flaw of that design.

@snk8699 Can you compare the bass to other IEMs that you've heard please? TIA.

I haven't taken the time to break these in yet as I just received them this morning so take this with a grain of salt, but I didn't even know I enjoyed bass this much until I heard it in such dynamic proportions of detail and amount.  It will be incredibly satisfying to see how these drivers sound in a few days when they are fully put through the paces.  Also, I appreciate the information straight from Campfire about breaking in these dynamic models in the previous posts.  This is why I love Head-Fi.  The manufacturer knows their materials best and there is simply no reason not to do it since it doesn't take any real effort.  I'm not a patient person, as I clearly pulled the trigger on these the second I received an email announcement from Campfire, but I'm told good things come to those who wait.

My favorite dynamic IEM before the Vega was the IE800, which has a slightly boosted bass that was pretty satisfying with many different genres of music.  Even without break-in, I can already tell that the Vega has more bass quantity than the IE800 to an enveloping degree while still offering textured detail.  I predict that the Vega will be the stuff of legends among bass head audiophiles.

The Andromeda also has excellent mid-bass and sub-bass extension for a balanced armature IEM, but I would say that the Vega is definitely my overall preference because of my predilection for dynamic drivers.
