Monoprice Monolith M1060 and M560 Planar Headphones

They're not that hard to drive but I'm used to HE-6 so that's not saying much.  Compared to TH-X00 which is very efficient they are a little harder to drive.  ~6dB difference when I tested them.  Of course that depends on output power at 32 Ohms fro TH-X00 and 50 Ohms for M1060 of your amp.

I know I've already suggested this to someone but just get a Magni, or swing for a Vali 2 from Schiit.  All excellent products and will work well with anything you throw at them.  Hard to beat for the price.

I still have no idea if mine are coming or not. I ordered them from Monoprice's Ebay on Friday, on Saturday people received theirs and I panicked about the connector issues, so I messaged Monoprice on Ebay requesting a cancellation.

It said I couldn't officially request to cancel the order, but that I could message and request one. Now it looks like that issue is easily resolved..so I don't know if I want to message again and request that they don't cancel the order or what lmao. gaaah.

I guess it doesn't really matter if I received them or not, because worse case scenario I return them...but I just want to get my whole headphone situation squared away.

I'm going through exactly the same 'back and forth' thought process. For me though, the outlay is greater due to the international shipping and imprt duty. I'm going to cancel and let others do the testing. I can always order aain in the future.

Are you going to put some felt on the back of the driver? I mean it could be not enough of demping there(just a piece of foam).

I have a pair of those Audeze pads already.  Did you have to glue them back onto the 1060's? Do you have any pictures or explanation as to how you attached the new Audeze pads?  I don't have the 1060's but am seriously thinking about getting them.  The only planars I have at the moment are my Fostex T50RP MkIII's so I'll be interested in comparing them if I get them. I've been waiting for the early reviews and my buddy should have a pair in the next couple days for me to audition on my Schiit Vali 2.

You need a full size round pad for optimal results.  The Dekoni Elite Pad was in between stock and Audeze pads in terms of improvement and costs $60.  My biggest grip with Brainwavz pads are that they aren't circular.  You need as close to a perfect seal for the sub bass to be present.  The way that the pads are adhered is on the outside edge like Audeze pads and so you won't get a good seal where the Brainwavz pads taper in at the sides.

It's really worth it to get them.  Think of it as a $400 headphone that competes with anything up to $1500.

Reading the info that's come in of late, I'm a little disappointed with the choice to go MMCX in combination with it needing a bit of power to properly be driven.  While you can easily get that power by stacking a dap & amp, I imagine the list of daps that would be pushing an appropriate amount of power is fairly small.  I personally avoid carrying a stack with me due to size and just plain lack of desire.  Typically MMCX cables are going to be fairly short unless you get a custom cable made, so maybe in the 4' or so range, which would imply portable use unless you're seated close to your amp.  Even considering this, a longer cable than what they included would have gone a long way to help.  I just hope it's a reasonable cable and not something cheaply upgraded past.

Well if Monoprice is smart, they will for sure revision the MMCX connections out if we complain loud enough.  As we spend more time with these let's keep that in the forefront, Monoprice is gonna need the push to give us what we want.

I'm willing to stick with MMCX if the impressions hold solid as they continue to come in.  The main issue at that point would be to get a cable made, and hopefully not too expensively.  Then again I will always have earbuds and IEMs that can make use of any MMCX cable I have crafted.

If these really do turn out to be LCD-2 competitors I'll probably have these become the first headphones that I'd want to try balanced (besides the HD800S I tried over at Sennheiser). But to do that we'd need Balanced MMCX to XLR cables and I don't think anyone makes those yet. Though I'd definitely pay to have them made. I wish I knew how to make cables cause that would make so many things so much easier.

Side note, anyone here think a sAp VI amp would be sufficient for powering the M1060? If not, should get a FiiO K5 or Schiit Magni 2 Uber?

Actually, turns out a highly recommended cable crafter on Etsy can make the necessary cable.  They have a few different types of IEM cables they can custom make, and MMCX & XLR is a viable combination.  I've heard nothing but good about their work so far, so I'd probably go this route:

Almost forgot, would one of you kind people that already picked up the M1060 mind showing me a decently close picture of the cable?  If there's already a good pic of it and I didn't notice, my apologies.  Kind of curious if I can get a rough idea of the kind of quality they went for.

Nice choice! They are amazing and their customer service is superb. I have one custom cable come in from them. About to order a second one for my 1060.

Just got an email that they cancelled my order for no reason, and want me to re-buy it with Pay With Amazon. I was really hoping it would ship out today, not be cancelled.

"Thank you for choosing Monoprice. Unfortunately, we are unable to move forward with this order and have issued a refund back to the original form of payment. If the items are still needed, as an additional security measure, please replace the order and select Pay With Amazon in the shopping cart screen. There you will be able to use your Amazon login to pay for your Monoprice order. We apologize for any inconvenience."

I ordered through monoprice directly. I tried to cancel over the weekend but couldn't because the office was closed. So I called this morning to try to cancel, but was told that the order was already sent to the wearhouse. Apparently once it makes it to the warehouse it can't be cancelled.

My order had not yet shipped, and I called them as soon as they opened at 6AM PST
