I talked to two product support "specialists", one of them suggested me to seek help from encompass, then encompass told me they are only responsible for selling headphone parts and I should contact sony directly.
The second "specialist" gave the same suggestion at first. After I told him/her what encompass said, I was suggested to give them a call.
I'll do it tonight, hope they won't told me "you should contact our online chat specialists", lol
Just an update, I went to a FNAC outlet to test the MDR-1000X there, their demonstration unit had the same creaking issue, unlike my headset though it was present on both sides of the headband! That settles it for me, I will pass on that headset until such day that Sony ever releases a fixed revision of it.
Many of us have had the "MDR-1000x creak" issue. I believe it is important to make Sony aware of this manufacturing issue. A call to Sony tonight told me to direct this problem to:
Community.sony.com
I have started a thread there and would like others to please join in.
After a full week of trying these headphones, I can gladly say that the creaking noise is not my biggest issue with these headphones, I previously had the MDR-100ABNs before the 1000x. The creaking issue was my biggest issue with the 100abn, it was very loud and the cans were very uncomfortable, so NO issues with thee 1000x on my end.
I just received the PCX 550 from Sennheiser to review. These are a loaner pair but we're brand new in the box when they arrived and while I have not had a chance to try them on the train yet I can say I really like their build quality. They feel much more solid than the Sony 100ABN and I am finding their sonic capabilities to be very enjoyable and so far more detailed than the 100ABN as well. I will do some A/B testing later after I have had a chance to get used to them.
They are smaller though so anyone who does not like the earpads touching their ear or anyone with larger ears will find them uncomfortable. For me they are small enough I have to fiddle to make sure they don't bother my ears and then I find myself tweaking them as I use them. They also are more snug which makes them get warmer than the 100ABN but also more passively isolating. I will post back on how they do on the train and walking in downtown Calgary tomorrow.
While I will be able to A/B/C them against the 100ABN and Bose QC30 its a shame I can't afford to buy the 1000X to do a true flagship to flagship comparison.
The PCX 550 has a function similar to 1000X left cup gesture. If I double tap the right cup it stops the music and let's in a certain amount of outside noise so I can here myself better while talking and can here the person I am talking to.
As an update to the charger issue I posted before, I contacted Sony Technical support about this and they replied that the MDR-1000x headphones should only be charged by connecting them to a computer, and that plugging them directly to the electric grid could cause damage to the headphones.
Something more to bear in mind for prospective buyers and current owners: if you connect them to the wall and you fry them, don't complain to Sony! Really stupid design decision.

Probably just a typical precaution to avoid charging them with shady high-amp chargers, and a CYA policy.
I wouldn't worry much about it, if anything. I'm sure they can take ~2A.
At the moment I'm more worried with poor structural design & materials resulting in audible creaking sounds. I'll pickup mine from the post office late this afternoon and if that is the case, they're probably going back.
Okay guys I have no creaks or squeaks whatsoever. The build quality seems pretty stellar to me .. I also tried a model on showcase at the airport here in Denmark and same thing.. Nothing like u guys were taking about ? Maybe it's a batch issue ?
Anyways the sound over wired amped is pretty stellar .. The bass rumbles and vibrates and holds up pretty well to my v mods ..less thump but cleaner output.. Really a swiss army of knives for me. And I've had quite a few headphones and iems. Im impressed to say the least. Tis my first pair of NCs .. U guys got me really worried ! Ncs are excellent !! Amazing !

I charge all my wireless headphone and headset using my phone charger with all sort of volt and amperage. Never had issue. Even computer USB has varying mAh. The USB input to charge should mean that it has its own internal charging circuit.
The one time I think that it "could" cause damage is when you use really dodgy/cheap/not-in-spec adapter.
I charge my Sony MDR1RBTMK2, MDR1ABT, and MDR100ABN using phone charger. (Nokia, Belkin, Motorola charger).
If the headphone suddenly decide to stop working one day. Sony would just ask to send the unit in and repair/replace it. (Providing no obvious product abuse can be seen - like water or impact damage)
