I bought the DK1 a few days ago, cannot get the line-out to work.  Took it back to the shop to check, they got it working with the X5 but not X7.  Tried a different X7 and DK1, no difference.  Are there any special settings?

Nope.  Just tried it with X7 both in DAC mode and as stand alone player.  3.5mm output from DK1 to a different amp,  It's working perfectly.  If it's working on X5ii - it should also work on the X7 - or is it the X7 whioch isn't working properly through the dock?

That's strange.  At the shop we interchanged between 2 different X7 as well as DK1, no help. The X5 worked as soon as plugged-in.
 
p.s. I only used the 3.5mm to connect to external amp, have not tried DAC mode.  Also, if it makes any difference, I am using fw 1.91, and AM5.

My X7 is a review unit, as is the DK1.  I actually just tried it with AM1, AM2, AM5 and AM3 modules - and all work.  My advice would be to carefully remove the AM5 module, give the contacts a quick clean, and then replace it again - and retry.
 
If its still not working - then it could be the module.

Thanks for the advice.  Tried that, no help, another owner also reported the same problem.

I wonder if Fiio did some final tweak before the release the retail version.  May have to wait for a fw update.
 
p.s. I did try the USB dac with the DK1.  It seem to work ok.  The only problem is I need to use the line-out on the top of the X7.

Ah - Ok - you'll need to raise it as an issue with FiiO then.  Maybe there is a difference with the unit I have.

Its not just your unit, its the same in my case. The line out port on the back of the DK1 is not compatible with the X7 yet, will be patched in shortly. Works fine with the E17K tho.
 
For now, will have to use the line out port on top of the X7 device.

So mine works because it is a preview unit (its one with the balanced switch which isn't in the final)?

I have the same unit (balanced switch) as well, and when I was testing it some time back, the line out wasn't working with the X7. Sunny was telling me that it was a software thing at that time, however I will have to recheck as it might have been patched in very recent;y. Though I don't recall the X7 getting an update since I received the DK1, I will double check to make sure.

I'm using fw 1.92 beta - so i wonder if that's the difference?

That might be the key, I am on the latest official FW release, the beta one had the compatibility patched in I bet. What do you have the X7 running out to if you don't mind me asking? :) Just curious what's your favorite amp to use with it

I actually don't use it as a DAC very much - mostly I use the iDSD or currently using the Dac Box RS (review unit).  I will use the DK1 a lot with the E17K though I think.
 
As far as amps go - main amp (desktop) is the VE Enterprise (which I still have to review) - otherwise the iDSD or LD MKIV
