Why in the world did this suddenly change?? It's driving me nuts. Now I can't right click to use spell checker or anything else like copy. And I can't even paste straight into this box. It takes me to another box first to paste in. I haven't changed anything on my end so I'm assuming you guys changed something. It's terrible trying to reply to anything or start a nice long detailed response or thread topic. I'm using chrome and windows 10 if that matters.

Do you have an add-on running, like uBlock Origin, or Ghostery, or something similar?

I'm just wondering if something may be hindering one of the webpage scripts?

The only thing I use is Ublock Origin. I don't have anything else installed. Worked fine before today. No other forums anywhere are doing this. Only Head-fi. I tried turning off Ublock and it still does it. Maybe the webmaster is punishing me for using an adblock ;p

I sometimes experience similar issue to you, in that when I right-click because I want to paste something, my browser says my keyboard does not have the necessary permission, but if I then CTRL-V, instead, it pastes perfectly with no problems.

Computer software does have its peculiarities, but I do also use uBlock Origin (which is why I mentioned it to you, earlier), and I also use Ghostery, No-Script, and a number of others (in Firefox browser).

BTW, sometimes uBlock Origin will not fully disable until you restart the browser, so that's also something you could try.

On my Mac, if I hold down the Command key when I right-click, I get my normal contextual menu and not the "Paste" option. I'm not sure what key would work on Windows -- possible Control.

This is stated as being for Firefox but may still be relevant (from the forum FAQ)

Why can't I right click and use Firefox's spell checker?
Because we use a fully WYSIWYG (What you See is What You Get) editor, the right click is needed to be able to pull up image and table properties, cut and paste, etc.  However, fear not.  There is a work-around to be able to keep using it.

If you hold ctrl (PC) or Command (Mac) when you right click in FF, it will treat the right click as though it's outside of the text editor.

This is an extra step for folks, but the idea was to provide the power of the context sensitive menus in the editor (to align images, add borders, color table cells, etc.) but also enable you to take advantage of good 'ol Firefox.

...and it does concur with Currawong's suggestion

Using control did work in Chrome too. It's only temporary and has to be done each time I want to bring it up. But at least I can use it now. Thanks.

I still don't understand why it changed all the sudden though for this forum. Seems there must be an option some place to keep it changed back permanently. I either hit some wrong button on the forums, hit some wrong button for chrome, or they changed some code recently for the forum or on chrome. Either way other forums do all these same things and you don't lose the right click menu options. Oh well, long as I can get to it now I'll live :)

My bad. I just realized what happened. I just noticed there is a "More" button with an arrow on the right side here to open a bigger menu---------->

I must have somehow hit it on accident and never realized? Never even noticed it before. Come on guys you should have caught that for me

I guess it's good I made a thread though because now I can use those 'more' tools and can hit control while I'm typing to get the normal context menu without switching back and forth. Maybe it will help someone else too.

+1

Same issue here. As mentioned in follow up posts if you do <CTRL> + <right click> you get the menu you would expect. It seems to me that menu should come up by default and contain the "paste" option  instead of defaulting to paste. It is true that by clicking on the More button you can then see a spell check button however this is not as convenient as the old right click method.

I would definitely call this a bug and not an "undocumented feature" :)
