On a bus right now, Classics on with thick pads. Great isolation, bass galore, EDM heaven! LG V10 in high impedance mode pumping beats at 45/75 volume. Headphones so comfortable I can't tell they're on. Must do mod if you like delicious low end.

What mod?

I'm using EQ and they sound amazing

What's wrong with pads play? These are making the headphones much more comfortable and some might like the changed sound signature, too. I haven't bought the pads for the Classics but then why not try them on? Agree, the latest pads are much better than the first batch but trust me, comfort wise they're nowhere near the Brainwavz pillows.

Hi. Looks like great pads indeed. Please post a link to them!

How does the sound compare to the latest Meze pads?

Meh, EQ requires the most knowledge and skill but can result in the best controlled changes done to sound. This is simple logic

It is easier for me to add 1 -3 dB of 80 Hz area if I want through EQ than to make a bet and buy a tube or a pad that adds it

At the same time, I want to buy those larger pads because I am curious by nature and want to see if they're any comfortable.

These pads sure look comfy. I could use more space for my medium sized->big ears. I do not want more bass however. I will wait for more feedback about them. The Meze pads are not bad and sound good, they are just a bit too hard and thus do not compress that much. Too much pressure on my big head.

And you have the newer, larger Meze pads now?

Just got my 99 Classics today. Found a demo pair at MusicDirect for $239 shipped and I have to say you would never know they were demo' d. Absolutely perfect condition and all accessories and boxing included. Bonus is they are probably mostly burned in.

I own and love a pair of NAD Visio HP50's. I tend to like "warm" headphones over analytical or overly bright headphones. I've only done a very short comparison but the Meze are very nice. They are not as rolled off as the NAD's and have it a little more bass punch. Comfort is a big win for the Meze's. I have a slightly larger than average head but small ears. Mine are the silver Meze's which shipped with the larger ear cups. They are plenty big for me and I find them very comfortable. The NAD's still come across as a little more "spacious" almost approaching an open headphone in their sound. The 99 Classic's are a little more direct and just have a very fun punchy sound with higher high's than the NAD's but never shrill.

One thing I love about the 99 Classic's (and the HP50's) is that they are very efficient and can be plugged straight into a DAP or phone.

I still need to compare them with my Sennheiser 650's but I usually like to compare "open" to "open" and "closed" to "closed". Still might be fun to see how they compare.....if I can get the levels equal.....very difficult when dealing with very different headphones as far as the power required to drive them.

You can EQ 99 C a lot without any distortion. I think you can reproduce HD650 signature after a bit of tweaking

I managed to get extremely close to ie800 signature with EQ. Ie800 is the only IEM I ever thought of as an end-game, and 99C managed to get almost the same sound

The technical part - texture, details and ADSR are there with 99C after EQ, but the signature itself has the sweetness of wood while ie800 employs that HelmHoltz resonator which is almost impossible to reproduce with EQ.
