I would encourage HF to start setting rules for posting comparisons between daps, headphones and iems, were we are only allowed to use a set of songs that we can download from HF and use those as our standards in our comparisons. Our way of writing comparisons is starting to take it toll on us and standards must be put in place

That probably won't work because enjoyment factor of those chosen songs will play a part on the person's perception and how much they enjoy the song itself. Its best testing with tracks you know well so you can establish differences. Stating the volume level, genre is something which can be done, but still, not many practice this method.

My DX200 should be here tomorrow, I will exclusively be using Tralucent 1Plus2.2, to start off.

If DX200 is worthy (and I hope much better than X5III as being mentioned) this IEM will express its potential.

Are you planning to use the 1plus2.2 balanced? I think it will benefit, but even single end should be able to tell you how good this music player is straight from the box.
Looking forward to see photos and read your impressions

I have a balanced Tralucent cable here, yes, though will be running single ended to begin with. Also don't expect any indepth impressions until the DX200 wears in a little.

We can also shed some light whether AK300 gets stomped into the ground by DX200's performance.

(I kind of hope it does)

I think as a minimum, mentioning which headphone is used for testing would be a good start, and maybe filter setting too.  Selection of a song could be a personal preference, though helpful too (if I'm gonna post a list of my edm/pop test songs, you guys gonna laugh me out
wink.gif
).  Also keep in mind, if we are talking about DAP comparison - we are not describing the sound but rather talk about relative comparison, trying to determine which one has more bass impact and extension, or warmer/thinner/neutral tonality, or brighter/warmer upper mids/vocals, or the extension/sparkle/airiness of the treble, or soundstage width/depth, etc.  It might not exactly paint the picture of the dap sound, but if you are familiar with a dap it's being compared to - such relative comparison can help you understand the sound of dx200.

Unfortunately, it's really is still up to the reader's discretion to differentiate the statements in this forum.

More often than not, the statements coming from casual members sometimes are poorly given.. For instance, mistaking signature preference as reference superiority as opposed to technical competence. This alone has caused quite a confusion for members (especially newer ones) to understand.

Even regulars some times rattle off impressions without qualifying their monitors used or clarifying the chain of equipment deriving their impressions.

And really, any claim of "reference" ultimately is a single person's personal reference

I'd rather advise members to check out the poster's profile and equipment in use, if the similarities are in favor, there's a better chance of following that member's impression and having similar results. Though this approach is not 100% assurance.

Back to the topic.

Really looking forward to more comments on everyone's impressions and opinions of the DX200.
It's kinda spare at the moment but am sure more will present itself soon.

Was an owner of the original DX100, am sure hoping the DX200 will be a worthy follow-up.

Will be getting mine (as soon as stocks available at one of my fav store).

Hmm... all in all, I think it's good to encourage members to post their views / impressions. I do agree some point of reference / standards ought to help. Nevertheless, we all have to start somewhere and this is after all an open forum. As a frequent forum visitor, one ought to be savvy and discerning. Read with the view that the posts are one person's view. Read also with care and keep in mind that some views are much more credible (try spot the difference) than others and you will soon, from the post, discern whose view are more reliable.

For people who start out posting, always keep in mind to post with an open and objective consideration (easier said) and to lend credibility to your impressions / reviews, you will be call upon to justify your views at some point. And if you're objective / open, don't think anyone can fault you on that. For me personally, I read most of the posts that interests me and for some posting by fellow members here (you know who you are), I hold higher regard and more weight.

Edit: Yup, so lets get back to topic and more impressions / review / comments on the star of this thread, the promising DX200.

I for one use the Utopia and the IT03 most of the time. Obviously I have many other monitors but these have qualities that I personally enjoy and feel gets me closest to the music, if everything else in the chain is up to par. On the DX200 I use Mango most of the time and the filter is set to 5 but I haven't experimented much with the the other filters.

Then there is the cable used. Some believe cables make a difference some don't. I find that with really good system there are differences. For that I use Whiplash Twau most of the time though with the IT03 I use the stock cable and the CB12 balanced cable. Oh, I also use the HE1000 v2, which do an excellent job as well.

I thought I searched, but didn't see it being mentioned anymore.  Anybody tried Zeus and/or Andromeda to check for hissing?

Hi all, I received today my DX200, who is coming to hopefully replace my old good and beloved DX90. I'm a Mac user, and this is my very first Android device. Not being elitist here, but I've never ever used or owned any Android device ...
Yet the beast is puzzling me!
- my touchscreen has a completely erratic behavior, making it pretty much unusable. It seems that my tactile commands are buffered, I mean that I would swipe/press several times but nothing would happen, then all of a sudden the device would start changing screens alone without me touching anything. Is it fixed by a new firmware (mine is 1.2.44)?
- how can I mount it so that when connected with USB on my macbook air, I can see the internal and external memory as OSX drives and copy music using Finder?
- is there any possibility to open network drives (SMB, NFS, ...) so I can stream from my NAS?
- Is there any app that would allow me to use the device with DLNA, roon, squeezelite protocols/systems?
- can we install new apps for streaming services such as Qobuzz, Tidal?

I've been looking for a user guide but couldn't find anything. I hope I can get some answers to be able to actually use that beautiful beast :)

Mine will also be here tomorrow...since we both have them...I'll start with my Tralucent 1Plus2.2's as well. Then I'm moving on to the Alpha Prime's balanced, then onto the Senn 650's straight. After those comparisons, I'll begin comparing the 200 to the 100, then the AK380, and lastly the DX80. Unfortunately, I have to give the AK380 back this week...so not much time to compare the two.

I unloaded all my FiiO stuff long ago though.

I don't know about this "qualifying or quantifying" stuff when reviewing.  As Chunjun said, this is an open forum...everyone here has a voice and they're encouraged to use it. No one has to feel second rate because they don't have the vocabulary down or the most complete testing rig.

I don't like even suggesting that you take someone's review with a grain of salt...

I find that incredibly elitist. Checking someone's profile before reading what they have to say? Really? Franky, no one has to "qualify" their monitors to you or anyone else Kenz. You just suggesting that would make some members feel like they aren't equipt to post their impressions. I don't care if the guy is using a set of Skullcandy's...if he enjoyed the DAP and wants to compare them to a set of Apple earbuds his thoughts are welcome here.

OK I'm sorry all, that really irked me. This is an open forum...not an audio snob forum. Period.

Just my $ .02...

I'm hoping 1Plus2.2 has excellent synergy from the get go as that's my IEM in need of a new partner. It would please me very much, If not I have some other options. But the pairing must do more than throw high levels of detail and resolution at me. It needs to layer the left/right channels how I know that earphone can sound, the stage width and most of all extract feeling from the music and quality alone. I'll be listening for many aspects besides a simple 'wow'.

Dear Icefalkon,

You're entitled to your opinion and suggestion as much as anyone else here is.
As you've rightfully mentioned, and as i'd quote "This is an open forum... not an audio snob forum. Period."

People have been burned taking reviews "without a pinch of salt" and anyone who's here long enough knows even the most similar taste in sound, will have their differences.
And I'm pretty sure even the suggestion i mentioned came with a disclaimer that it's "not 100% assurance".

I'm just sharing my views and very eager to have my hands on the  DX200 as anyone else who has interest in the player as well.

In any case, have a good day.

I know what you mean. To be honest, I LOVE how the 1Plus2's sound with my DX100. The way they sound with that unit is both magical and frustrating to me. While the punch, balance, detail, sound stage and separation are all there...I've sometimes felt that with some genre's of my musical taste "something" more is needed....or rather something is missing. I'm hoping that the 200 will supply this "something"...

With all due respect, who made you the review police? We all know...or should know that everyone's taste in sound is different. There is no perfect DAP, there are no perfect cans, and there are no perfect reviews. As for people being "burned" by some people's reviews...it's happened to most of us concerning something audio related at least once. That doesn't make it ok to be elitist or an audio snob. There are people here who have phenomenal gear who don't brag about it. There are people here who's mastery of the English language isn't that great. Sometimes their thoughts aren't correctly transmitted onto their review. My point was simply that no one has the right to disavow someone's thoughts, impressions, or ideas about a product because his or her gear doesn't meet your standards. Ultimately, the onus is on the reader, not the reviewer to be responsible for their purchase and not blame it on someone's lack of audio professionalism.

I respect your right to feel how you do, I just find it to be snobbish in delivery. No disrespect to you or yours.

OK enough on that...lets go back to wishing that the DX200 will be the be all and end all of musical players. LOL

Not for nothing...I put the DX100 just slightly behind the AK380. I've been comparing the two for months now and have previously stated that two are very very close in sound signature. The DX100 has been used for years (constantly) and the AK380 has also been used constantly...That being said, to my ears, if the DX100 is sonically close to the AK380...I can't wait to see what the DX200 does.
