The while line as it appears to be a faulty screen. I am waiting further information from VC which should come out after new year. I will try to email the seller again and see if they have any more updates for me.

Major discoveries!!

I spent the last 3 hours trying to clone partitions and SD cards because...

The internal storage is a 8Gb microSD card with a working slot!!

1, Opened!

2, System microSD card.

3, sub board for controls.

4, TFT side of the PCB.

After a lot of digging, I was able to ID the make and model of the unit: U.R.T. UMNH-8793MD-4T

With this info an spec., we can start looking for IPS replacement :).

However, so far I can't get the clone cards to work.  Somehow there is a build in safeguard that the unit will not turn on unless the original was there.  I tried to clone all the partitions exactly, including their partition IDs with no success.  I will keep working on this.

Part of the system files are actually listed in the legal notice!  However, it is Linux based I don't know how to clone those under Linux.  I am mostly a Windows guys so I am stump here.

A linux user did try to clone it, he got as far s load screen but the unit kept turning off. It is truly well hidden. For a linux OS it is fairly closed.

Will it be possible to replace that screen with an oled screen?

I hope so.  However, even there is one with the same pin out and spec, I doubt the commands will be the same.  At the very least now we can do our own screen replacement (around $25, but it is out of stock in the US.)

How difficult is it to take the device apart?  The LCD screen on mine is slightly off alignment leading to light bleeding out which is sort of annoying and I was wondering if I can fix it myself.

Super easy, and all you need is a T5 bit and a small cross bit.

1, the bottom 2 screws hold onto the bottom cover.
2, the back screws for the amps also hold onto the top over, but you need to pull out the volume knob first.
3, there are some minor tabs on the side to hold on to the two halves of the case, just take it easy and it will come apart.
4, unplug the battery once the they are apart.
5, unscrew 3 silver screws for the board, but yo do NOT need to unscrew the one for the wheel control.
6, carefully lift the board out, as it is attached to the side board with a socket.
7, once that's out, you will see the LCD bracket is being hold on be 3 very small tabs and a bit of tape.

At this point you can adjust or just take the LCD out, but be very careful on the 40 pin ZIF cable.

Thanks for the detail description, sounds straight forward enough.  Might give a go.

  Findings:

1, sad to report that single channel amp like the OPA627AP does NOT work.

This is sad. I was aiming at 627 since I like what I hear from my Vantam. May be another version exists which will work? Should we ask VC?

VC tend to release different versions of the same model. I don't know how I feel about it.

I have a pair of buf634 coming, that said to be the reason why opa627 sound this good. I'll report when I get it.

Found this mod: http://www.headphoneamp.co.kr/19841

The issue is that single channel chip like OPA627 or BUF634 won't work, so we need a way to put 2 of them into one WhiteCat to make it dual channel.

VC's own OPA627BP with their custom board will work, but it cost too much and seems rather unnecessary.

Found this but it is the wrong orientation.

We just have to wait and see what VC does. They normally release limited buffed up edition of the same model. I don't quiet like that but they seem to sale well.

I have to send mine back for repair. I am liking its ui as I get from A to Z very quick. I hope I get my buf634 before sending my unit back for repair.

Same here, and is it about the screen?
