iBasso DX80 Bug Thread - Post Any Firmware Bugs/Issues Here
Nov 24, 2015 at 8:56 AM Post #137 of 1,489
All of my art work is showing up fine now, even the artwork that was pixilated before. Also the UI, as mentioned, is very fast now.

After the 1.1.4 firmware, I also noticed that the UI is generally smoother, which is great.Album art pixelation seems to be fixed too.
Absolutely no issues with SD card scanning for me.

I still have issues with:

1. USB DAC mode shuts down automatically after the specified "Auto Power Off" period, even when music is playing.
2. Some DC "thump" in playback transitions, particularly for IEMs. Also had a nasty "click" sound when the unit powered down, which gave me a fright.
3. Inconsistent transport "back" button behaviour, where it doesn't go to the start of the current song if the music is paused.

Also, these are not bugs, but just as a wish list for the future:

1. It would be nice to have the scroll slider on the Album view, similar to the "All Music" view.

2. It would be nice for the tags to scroll, because it is currently cut off at the end of the screen. I have a lot of albums with similar names, like
Beethoven: Piano Sonata No.30
Beethoven: Piano Sonata No.31

where they will all show up as
Beethoven: Piano Sonata No...
Beethoven: Piano Sonata No...

You can swipe to scroll long album/song titles.  The implementation is poor however as you will often ff/rw the track you are playing.

Yes the thump is still there. Hopefully it gets rectified real soon. It's quite scary on my ES5...

Found a problem (using 1.1.4). Not sure if previous fw has it as this is the first time I played from those folders. So far found 2 "problem" folders.

Scanned card and completed with no hang ups.

If I freshly switch on and go straight to that folder to play, I will get a very fast "media scan" for that folder (the % number running... not supposed to right since I've already scanned the whole card), 2 hardware clicks (amp?), jump back to "Ready" empty screen and nothing happens. Selected track in that folder did not play.

If I have been playing other folders, say last folder played is Maroon 5's V, track 5 with the album art displayed bla bla, then go into that problem folder to play a track, I will also get a media scan, but this time, that track will play. BUT it will still display V's track 5, with V album art. Then:

- If I swipe back to track list, it show's the problem folder track list. I select another track to play, that track will play but again, displaying V's track 5 and album art.

- If I directly press button to skip track, it will skip to V's track 6, and display will be correct... track 6. (To proceed from there, subsequent swiping back shows problem folder, press button skips tracks in V album).

This is the same 64GB exFAT microsd used in my N5 and previous X5.

Solving the problem with pictures it's great but actually I don't listen pictures. And the pops are still here. So what about it? May it's a hardware problem or we are still waiting for software silution?

This is getting interesting.

I did some troubleshooting and discovered what caused the problem I was facing.

The two folders had apostrophe in the name..... "Roxette's Greatest Hits".... "Dances with Wolves (Collector's Edition)"....

Exclamation mark and semi-colon are fine though.

Once I delete the apostrophe, it worked. Its respective album art also showed up properly.

THEN comes the next phenomenon.

I left the folder name with apostrophe again. Inside that folder, I created another folder with apostrophe. Then I random copied one of the track inside. It could play! But this time no album art showed.

I reckoned I would copy the "folder.jpg" (album art) into that nested folder as well. It could still play but album art still didn't show up.

OK now i restarted the trial. Single folder with apostrophe with full album tracks and folder.jpg in it, and it couldn't play. Good.
Next, I just delete the folder.jpg. And it could play! No album art showed though, which was expected.
Finally, I copied back the folder.jpg into the folder. The album art won't show anymore. BUT the tracks would play now.

I wonder which is the correct question I should ask...

- Why certain album art will prevent tracks from playing if the folder they are in contains apostrophe?
OR
- Why an apostrophe will prevent the tracks in that folder from playing with certain album art?

Simply.... mind boggling...

I just found another folder.... "Guns N' Roses - Greatest Hits"

Deleting apostrophe didn't work.

Reinstated the apostrophe. Deleted album art jpg. And it could play! (without displaying album art of course)

So...... album art supercedes apostrophe?

I give up!

LoL You really get into it.
My guess is:  the problem is with the apostrophe. It looks a little like an SQL-injection hack, what hackers do in applications and sites: disrupt the interpreter of the input.
The DX80 handles all the descriptions and different writings of the tracks and their directories. It does this by placing implicitly apostrophes around it, so it knows the correct strings and won't be cut off by the first space.
ex: The GodMachine  ==> "The GodMachine" . Or else it would just read  " The" . Like in a DOSbox working with directories with spaces in it.
So if you put a apostrophe (single/double) in the name: The God"machine, it disrupts the DX80's reading.
If an apostrophe in any directory/track name without album art  isn't a problem, but it gets a problem as soon as album art is involved, the problem is in the routine that handles the pics.

It might actually be fun to so where this can lead.

Every site and application should guard against this kind of hacks nowadays.  It was possible in the past to enter:  """&select all usernames from all_users    - or -     ''''''||@some_script     - in a textbox and the statement would get executed. My guess is Ibasso didn't think (enough) of these things with building the DX80's OS.

But hey, who in their right mind would wanna hack a DAP?

Hehe, i hope Doc gets at it real soon.  I liked SU1.1.3 for the DX50 a lot. And maybe the thumping issues gets solved too.

It may be that the file contains a character that looks like an apostrophe, but isn't the same character you'd get by typing the apostrophe on your keyboard. That is to say, it's some kind of extended character that isn't ASCII, or UTF-8, or any other encoding that the DX80 recognizes.

As an example, on a a US keyboard, you have ' next to the Enter key above the ", and the ` that's above the ~. With many fonts, these two look identical. If you use Microsoft Word, and use quotes, you'll find that Word usually inserts two different characters, and the one at the beginning of the quoted text can't (easily) be typed on your keyboard.

I recently went through my music collection to clean this stuff up, and found 4 different characters that looks like apostrophes, 4 characters that look like double quotes, and 3 that looked like a dash. My music library handled all of them, but other programs didn't. Maybe the DX80 is choking when it finds certain characters it can't handle.

Yes!!! The latest firmware update has fixed the only problem that I have experienced with my DX80.  What was previously happening was that when I listened to an album, the final track would stop about 3-4 before the end.  When I would << back to the begininng of the song, it would play to the end, as it should .  Since updating to the latest firmware, everything has been running as expected. Thanks, iBasso!  Great DAP!

And still is, but not with all the tracks. Still sometimes it happens with 1.1.4.

Yeah, I spoke prematurely.  No sooner did I post that, the next album I listened to did it to me.  It stopped exactly 3 secs from the end. Oh, well...maybe the next firmware update will address the issue.  Is it happening to others,as well as me?

I am on the newest FW 1.1.4 and noticed the following bugs:

- The L/R Balance seems swaped (if i turn it to the left, the sound becomes more focused on the right channel vice versa)
- the album artwork on the list view with the 2 columns is really pixeled, even tough the artwork on the playing screen looks fine and not pixeled)

Maybe that could get fixed.
