Sennheiser HD800S Unveiled!

If imaging and neutrality is high on your list for speakers may I suggest the LS3/5a which will fit on your Concept stands and produce the most realistic vocal sounds you will have experienced and holographic stereo.

Thats a nice speaker, never heard them but wish I had. I also heard the Kef LS50 studio monitors and preferred these to the Q Acoustics, but they are 4 times the price here in Australia.
For me, near field monitors possibly combine the best attributes of conventional speakers and headphones. Also they don't have to be incredibly loud when you are so close ( got to keep the family happy).
Sorry all... this is a headphone thread..Love my HD800!

This HD800 peaks near the 800s range.

You can see my HD800 is practically identical to yours.

A lot of the new ones (but not all) look like ours which are quite different from the original standard. I have said this before but some people ordering HD800S could get headphones with our curves as they are within the +3dB manufacturing tolerance of the HD800S reference. I think Sennheiser should be commended for giving out individual detailed frequency responses but in doing so it is opening a can of worms. The only 100% guaranteed difference will be a black paint job and extra cable. Anything else is up to how lucky you are.

so a "good" HD800 can sound like HD800S and a "bad" HD800S can sound like the original HD800.

The big unknown is how the modifications affect the soundstage like the Anax mods do. Lets say that by small chance through my purchase of HD800S and HD800 I would get two devices with the exact same frequency response. I would much rather the version which hasn't had more material added between the driver and my ear to achieve the same result.

I think that in the future if we have any reviews of HD800 or HD800S then the reviewer needs to show the individual frequency response so that we may have some kind of reference point.

The good news is that now the frequency responses are available in the box before registration takes place. This means that customers can request the 'truth' from their dealer before buying.
These aren't $500 headphones, they are a significant investment for most people and you want to receive what you have paid for.

I'm just over here praying that we'll see any discount on the HD800 so I can justify picking one up

mmm......took the plunge and did a blind purchase for the new 800S. My dealer says 3 to 4 weeks delivery time. After receiving this, I plan to sell my old 800.

Just looked at your inventory and you own 26 pairs of headphones plus a huge number of amps. Wow.

No disrespect but how can you own 26 pairs of headphones

One of our head-fier meet members, here in Sydney, brings a clothing stand to hang all his headphones. I don't know how many but it would be 50+
