I don't think this is BS or people making it up at all, although in some cases it probably is people looking for attention.  I'm as skeptical as they come.  The above instance doesn't happen to me very often, but it did happen on that particular song.

I don't think people are making it up either. They do notice new things they haven't noticed before. But they listen to their new gear critically and they are looking for differences. Do you hear that static with your old DAC now? Is it better that you hear the static? One could argue that the old DAC was more musical, because you were so drawn in the experience that you could even notice the static, just the instruments.

All I'm saying is that you don't need new gear to notice things you haven't noticed before, you just have to pay more attention and look for details.

Bimby has arrived.  Yassss!

One hour of warmup and the Buber is def going back on the shelf.  Maybe it's me, but something with the original Bifrost always seemed "shouty" (is that the right word?).  It almost sounds too dynamic.  I am playing through Lyr 2 w/Lissts and the Oppo PM3s just seemed like there was a lot in upper mids/lower treble.  I've listened to these same cans and amp fed from the Yggy and there was none of that.  So, with Bimby, that's not there.  Much more natural dynamics.  Again, this is just after being on an hour.  I can definitely appreciate this model more than the previous.

So, this is just an initial thingy.  I spent a day with the Buber and now an hour with Bimby.  Bimby wins but I don't really have detailed data until I spend some time this week with them.

...your wife was outside mowing the lawn...

What do I have to buy for this to happen?!?

A new wife?  There are not enough jewels/handbags/Italian leather riding boots/<insert her favorite bribes

> in the world to get my wife to push the mower.

And that's fine, as there aren't enough overpriced (don't see Schiit!) DACs/amps/cans/<insert favorite gear> in the world that could take her place.

I warned you

I have to fight to keep my wife off the mower. I do that because of her allergies. It's worse for me for her to mow the grass than for me to do it. She's pretty stubo....strong willed and not much of a girly girl anyway.

I once changed the GE211 tubes in one amp to the coveted United 211 tubes with pellet getter.  It sounded soooooo much better to me.  I asked my wife, who is a violinist, to listen.

Me: What do you think?
Wife: What did you do?
Me: I changed the tubes.
Wife: It sounds like crap. Do we still have the old ones?

Anyway, my bimby is heading to the mothership tomorrow.

I bought my wife a new Honda lawn mower and it made her happy to mow. It's just a walk-behind type, with assistance, but that's the one she wanted. She's a keeper!

If I bought that for my wife, she'd have:

  • Bought "me" some bag with some label I've never heard of;
  • Served me with divorce papers... nah!  it'd be #1

Yes, keeper indeed!

but I'd just go buy a MultiFrost, so it'd all come out in the wash

Nerd question for Jason and Mike...when dealing with input bit depth higher than chips support, are the bits truncated, rounded off, or some other combination?  Or is that proprietary?  I know truncation can be drastically easier and cheaper to implement than rounding techniques.  Just curious.  BTW, this Bimby is witchcraft.  Sounds fantastic.

I always thought this shoutiness was part of Schiit House sound. Their gear tended toward the aggressive and bright side. But this seems to be changing as they improve and upgrade all their stuff. I'm definitely happy with this change in the Multibit Bifrost.

My amp choice probably attributed some.  It's quite a punchy amp but seriously good sounding.  Like I said, this is my opinion over a finite time with several variables.  That said, after about 3 hours, this thing is really singing nicely.  I'll have to play some more with it tomorrow after work.  Certainly a step up in overall sound quality to me.

My girlfriend can be brutally honest sometimes too, but she'll generally ask "Why did you change that?!" with such a tone that I immediately know, it does not sound better. With the Multibit upgrade though, we started dancing

Just got my RA!

For those in the queue. I entered the queue last Sunday night as #47. By Wed I was number 11.  Took until tonight before I actually got the RA. So about a week from 47 to RA. Hope that helps you meter your anticipation. Just my experience of course.
