Sony h.ear on MDR-100AAP - $199 'Hi-Res Audio' Over-Ear Headphones

So i've been listening to these for probably 50hrs now and the headphones probably have fully burn in by now (200hrs). The bass was boomy, moderately elevated and quite fun when it was new. Now it has tamed down a lot and i would consider it as neutral now. I actually like it better when it has more bass. I just bought the Chord Mojo and it elevated the the headphones is many ways. The midrange becomes more forward and larger. The soundstage width probably extend a little bit but it's definitely much taller and deeper now. Bass becomes significantly tighter. One of the result of tighter bass is the reduced perceived bass quantity. I actually like it when the headphones has more bass.Overall, the vocals becomes larger(taller) and the bass is much more controlled. The difference is not small which is surprising for me. Most headphone at this price range don't scale up much if not at all. Sony definitely put a good driver in this headphones.

Got these on eBay via BuyDig for $70 Brand New.
They were on sale for $120, but had $50 coupon, so brought them down to $70.

Are these headphones a good buy at this price. Never saw these under $180, so looks like a good price at $120.($70 with coupon)

Are these conformable? Had some tma-1s, but we're really uncomfortable because clamping force.

Meh, i just received a mail from mediaworld (it's part of mediamarket, so a quite big company, present all around europe) that says that the viridian green 100aap won't be restocked in the future (and so i would expect the same fate will befall on the other colours too). Seriusly, what the hell is going on? These are truly amazing headphones, especially for the price.

I guess i'll have to hurry tho the shop and get my pair as soon as i get this mon'ts paycheck...

if you're looking for veridian green I suggest you take a look at eprice.it

So, last week i finally bought a pair (obviously, the viridian blue one :D), got them for 100€.

Well, i can only confirm the first impressions i got when i tried them in the shop. This cans are really good.
I really like the sound signature, quite balanced, with just a tad of bias for the lower frequencies, making everything really enjoyable, even for really long listening sessions.
I really like the bass, it's energetic without getting in the way of the rest of the presentation, and feels quite textured, too. The highs are really spot on for me, quite detailed and extended, but in no way harsh. The mids are a bit more recessed than i'd like them to be, but not really much, in fact vocals are really enjoyable with these headphones, and i've gotten used to it really fast.
Also, i hear a good separation, i can really tell one instrument from the other, as opposed to every other earphone and headphone i owned in the past (for example, now that i've been using the 100aap, the se-215 sound like a crowded mess, really closed in and just not exciting at all).
Ah, one last thing: it's really hard for the 100aap to show any sibilance. Even with tracks that have REALLY strong sibilance, the headphones deliver just a hint of it.

Comfort wise, these headphones are top notch. I can wear them for hours without even noticing them, and even thought it's been quite hot in the past few days here, i didn't have big issues about my ears getting hot. The headphones are light, and the pads are really soft. Also, the pressure on the head is light, so it doesn't get uncomfortable when wearing them for long.

Finally, they seem pretty sturdy, i don't get any crackling when handling them, and the build is really good, as one could expect from sony. Oh, and these things are sexy as hell, whoever has seen them has told me how cool they are.

I really don't get why sony didn't push more on them, advertising them properly as much as possible. They got a really good sounding, good loking and well built headphone in a fairly affordable price range, and yet managed to make them go unnoticed. And now, after not even a year from their announcement, it seems they're even dismissing them. Really, really strange, considered they didn't even release a real successor like they did in the case of the mdr-1r with the ,dr-1a.

Now, i apologize for any inconsistency in my impressions, i'm just a newbie in the audiophile world, but i wanted to share what i feel about these headphones. I'm really loving them, the only real issue is they didn't come with a hardshell case. They're stunning, sound good, and are strudily and well built. I think i would have been really happy even if i had paid the full retail price.

how is this headphone compared to m50x or m70x?
I preferred more detail , neutral and flat sound

It's more laid-back than the M50x (which I prefer still). The upper midrange and treble on the Sony are recessed so it has a more mellow/warm tone. Bass is not as in-your-face but still reaches deep - a tad bit bloated in the midbass. These are like IM70 without forward midrange. I often want to give the Sony some second thoughts about purchasing them as I've tried them many times, but often end up a bit disappointed but that's just my own opinion, and YMMV

Congratulations and your impression mirrors mine. I do have the SE215 and i do think they sound very good, they just need a good source. To me, the MDR100AP is the best in its class. You have to pay 2x the price to get something significantly better and even then there are compromises in comfort.

Anyone thinking of catching them all? I got yellow, blue and black.Thinking of the orange and pink.

Probably the best portable Sony in a long time and I say that as a Sony MD and headphone collector since the 90s.
