Schiit Yggdrasil Impressions thread

That's good to know. Screenshot from the Schiit website (admittedly the Gumby):

No idea why Gumby does not play nice with Linux. Certainly Bimby and Yggy do in my experience with various ARM/Linux-based streamers. Update: Actually, that's bizarre, the desktop Schiit site does not say that. Indeed, the contrary: "We’ve used Gungnir on Ubuntu 12.04 and 13.04, and we’ve had owners report that Mint and Debian 3.8 and 3.10 work well. Please note these are “vanilla” installs and we’re not able to provide troubleshooting or support of Linux issues."

How would I check the fuses?
Would that cause only that one seeming issue?

If there's a separate fuse for the outputs (which I don't know, but maybe someone does?) I would check them all with a Digital Multi-Meter set to continuity being you mentioned there's more than one fuse in the Yggy. The meter will beep if the fuse is good stating it's making contact at each end. If it's a glass fuse, you may be able to see if the metal in the center is blown. If you don't have a DMM you can buy an inexpensive one for $10-15.00 from Harbor Freight or somewhere else. You don't need an expensive DMM just for checking the fuses.

Doesn't hurt to try before shipping it to Schiit.

I have tried balanced, and both of the SE. Different cables too.

If you have both balanced and SE connected at the same time, that can cause the outputs to mute.  It depends on the amplifiers in use.  Some are fine, others have to be powered on, and in some cases you can't have both outputs connected at the same time.

For example, if I connect the BAL outputs to my Ragnarok and the SE outputs to an iFi Pro iCAN ... then when I turn on the iCAN it'll mute Yggy's outputs for about 20 seconds until it switches on its inputs.  And if I change input on the iCAN it'll mute Yggdrasil again.

So, if you haven't already, try it with just ONE connection, either balanced or SE, and no other cables connected to the outputs.

Sadly tried both ways.

As for fuses, I'm only seeing one on diagrams near where the Yggy gets its power.

I'm tempted to check it, but I don't know if it's worth it considering the device powers and almost fully functions properly.

if you purchased it used, return it immediately and get a refund. you have spent more than enough time troubleshooting an item that you purchased and I will go out on a limb and say you expected to be a functional unit.

trust me you don't want to drag your feet

Downloaded and installed the ones from Schiit's site.

Everything looks and seems like it's going to function until I try to play anything. No sound.

Tried balanced and red/white cables so far... getting concerned.

I know you had multiple suggestions, and know what you are doing.

But I experience no sound from the Yggy once. That was in fact not the Yggy at all! The Moon 430HAD had locked (not sure why) - disconnected the Moon 430HAD from power and reinserted again; everything fine.

Weird. Can you describe that for me? The process you did to unlock it.

At this point I'm willing to try anything.

As I stated; it was not the Yggy but the Moon 430HAD that had locked up (Yggy connected to Moon 430HAD). Just disconnected power from the 430HAD and reconnected. All good; been good for 6+ months after as well.
Not saying this is the case for you, but worth a try if you have not already tested?

Edit:
I remember you also having a Moon 430HAD; if that is wrong I just wasted your time

Sadly nothing with trying that multiple times and in multiple ways.

I also just tried another amp for the heck of it. No sound :frowning2:

Anyone have any comments regarding Schiit's customer service/repair process?

Hardest decision is between sending it back to the buyer which might get me a Yggy sooner, or trusting that the Schiit repair will be quick and they will ship it back quickly.

Anyone have any comments regarding Schiit's customer service/repair process?

Their service/repair is excellent, but they, of course, only offer warranty to the original purchaser.
