Schiit Yggdrasil Impressions thread

And what reason would that be though? An doesn't the bright light on the front bother you in the middle of the night?

The components on Yggy's boards need to come up to temperature and reach thermal stability before they perform as they should.

The lights don't bother me because Yggy is in a room that I am not in in the middle of the night.

The general consensus is to leave the Jggy on all the time.
Schiit recommends it and some have noticed that it may take several hundreds of hours to fully stabilize at its peak performance.

As for those bright led's, you could also try using a sharpie to help dim their light output.

It works for me.

Not 100s of hours after initial burn-in, "just" 24-48h. I turn mine off only when we are away for extended periods, when all my home electronic gear is switched off for safety reasons.

Except the fridge?

I don't turn stuff off full stop these days. Would be incredibly rare for an electrical device to cause a fire these days unless the underlying wiring was at fault.

The refrigerator is built and certified to run continuously. I'm not so sure about the many pieces of audio, video, and computing gear in my house. Just risk reduction at the cost of a teeny bit of inconvenience. The probability of nothing bad happening is the product of the probabilities of nothing bad happening with each of the devices. Turning off any device that can be turned off thus increases the probability that nothing bad happens. The product of many close-to-one probabilities can be pretty far from one

I prefer to leave all the stuff on even when I'm away from the house for days...not only does everything sound better when I return, it increases the probability that I might get a return on my insurance policies.

Do you guys use a UPS for your DAC? The main reason would be to protect it if you have some variations with electricity. I usually keep my DAC powered, but if I will be really busy at my office for a week and I know I won't have time to listen to music, I usually turn it off for protection. Also, another question, regarding Yggy:
- currently I am using the USB and optic inputs. I usually disconnect the USB cable each time when I stop the music. Should I leave one end of the USB cable, the one from Yggy, still connected in order not to handle the cable at the DAC side very often?  The USB cable is used for connecting a MacBook Pro, which I'm using it for work, when not connected to the dac.

I also tested two different USB cables with Yggy this weekend, more exactly my Tellurium Q Black and a cheap USB cable. I can really see a huge difference between the two cable, now I am thinking to change the rest of the cables  too :)

A normal ups does not do any mains smoothing or filtering. The battery only kicks in in the event of a power failure.

I would unplug cables as infrequently as possible to avoid stress on the sockets. Why would you want to keep unplugging things?

USB and optical are possibly the two worst inputs in terms of quality.

I use a Cyberpower PFC Sinewave UPS with my Yggy.  It provides constant voltage regulation.  I have lost power several times since I have had my Yggy and the UPS has rode me through each time.

Oh there is something else I forgot to ask.
When I had the Gungnir, there was this issue where when the outputs were connected to my Pioneer, there was a ton of distortion in the audio from the second audio output from the Gungnir  when the receiver was turned off. But it went away when the receiver was turned on. Someone mentioned that when the receiver was off it shorts out its ports and Gungnir is effected. I wound up having to use a powered a/v distribution amplifier in between the Gungnir and Receiver to get rid of the distortion while my receiver was turned off.
Has anyone has this experience with the Yggdrasil?

Good products. Some of us in Seattle area use one, along with an inverter, to "hot transport" our digital stuff to meets. My Yggy and uDO stay on the whole time, draw very little current.

Just purchased a Yggy.

Should be getting it on Tuesday.

I was in your boat about a month ago. I had the 430 HA D for over a year and pulled the trigger on a Yggy. At first, I could not hear a huge difference and was a little disappointed. About a week ago I decided to A&B the two and there is a difference. Not night and day, but better. I hear little things that I didn't hear before . I think the best way to describe it is the sound is more clean and clear. I am using the LCD-4.

First of all, my current source is my macbook with a Tidal HiFi subscription. This is why  I am using either USB input or optical (through an apple tv 3 of Yggy). When I am disconnecting my laptop from Yggy, I usually disconnect the USB cables from both ends (macbook and Yggy). Should I leave the USB Type B jack connected to the Yggy and the other end "free"? Is it safe?

So most probably I have to add also one for mine. Thank you.
