Lotoo PAW 5000: Impressions Thread

Very incisive review, Mike.  Everyone keeps citing how this DAP doesn’t possess enough juice to sufficiently drive demanding headphones.  Considering how some midrange DAPS do have enough oomph for this purpose, any idea why they made this so low power?

Thank you mate. Well, it may be about sound signature. We may ask this; if it had more power, could it still sound the same? Maybe better, meybe worse.. :)  Amplification tonality may have effect on sound.

5000 looks to be exactly what was intended. The shape looks very nice. Does it fit to hand as well as it looks? No mumbo jumbo, hype or magic. Just good solid engineering that performs.

Sounds like you're an unabashed fan of Lotoo's more affordable DAP.  In your opinion, how does it compare to other DAPS within this price range?

It fits nicely to my hand, even though my hands are relatively small. :) P5000 is smaller than I was thinking.

What genres of music were most distinctive for you in delineating this DAP from the others you've compared it with?  Were there any specific selections of music you can cite as far as the sound signature?

Well, for testing, I have a couple of songs such as:

Dave Weckl - Jay Oliver / Apocalypso-Convergence (Tones and Control)
Daft Punk / Beyond-RAM (Lows)
Kenny W. Shepherd / True Lies-Trouble is.. (Separation, Resolution and Mids)
Dennis Chambers / Aircraft-Groove and More (Highs, Resolution, Control)
Dream Theater / Erotomania- Awake (Mids, Control, Imaging)
Dave Weckl / Taboo (Lows, Mids)
Beethoven/ 9th Symphony (Stage, Imaging)
Oz Noy / Ice Pick (Tones)
Al Di Meola / Cuba Africa (Male Vocal)
Zac Brown Band / Uncaged (Sibilance)
Some bad recordings (Forgiveness test)

etc..  I always listen to same songs for each review to be sure about devices..
