From the same guys who brought you the awesome Shozy Alien DAP, say hello to the Cozoy Astrapi: an external DAC and mini amplifier. Built for the IPhone user, this little guy solves a variety of problems faced by the portable audiophile – getting clean, awesome High-Resolution Audio from your smartphone without the fuss. None of those complicated setups that’ll weigh you down...perfect for IEM lovers!

Design and Build:

The Astrapi is built to last and yet extremely lightweight at only 9 g! You just gotta love the power of aluminum! Because of Apple’s power consumption limit on how much power can be drawn from its lightning port, many external DACs require complicated setups, or just don’t work. The Astrapi is Apple MFi approved and has full compatibility with IPhones (5/6), as well as late generation IPads.

A Lightning to Micro USB B (male) cable is included. No CCK adapter required.

Compatibility:

Although targeted towards the iOS user, it also works with a variety of big brand Android devices that support USB Audio. Want to hook it up to your computer and use it as an external sound card? No problem. The Astrapi is compatible with Windows PCs and Mac OSX (USB 2.0 only) devices too! A true all-in-one device.

Key Features:

- Apple Mfi Product Approved
- Super low power consumption - no batteries to charge
- High-Res audio playback – up to 24bit / 192kHz (App assisted)
- DSD (DoP) playback – Via Apps
- Variable Resistor Volume Control
- Activate Line-Out Audio at Max Volume
- Built-in DSP
- Windows / OSX: Native 16bit/44.1kHz
- iOS, Android

All you need are some good portable earphones/headphones, lossless tunes and you're ready to rock!

It's really interesting that even MFi could go above 48-KHz / 16-bit now, Apple finally did it for the audiophile community.

I don't really get this part, though:

- Windows / OSX: Native 16bit/44.1kHz

just curious what dac chip is used in this device and what is the power rating?

Internal guts of Astrapi is a mystery :)  Only known as having some DSP.

Spec:

  1. Hi-resolution :24Bit-96khz 192khz
  2. Impedance :16-100ohm at 1khz loading
  3. Output vrms:1.5Vrms max
  4. THD+N:0.003% ,1khz 0dbfs
  5. SNR:105Db AT 3.3V power supply
  6. Resolution :24bit/192khz sampling
  7. System power current :10mA-70mA max
  8. Power input:1.8V-3.3V+-10%
  9. Output gain level step :3dB/step ;16 steps
  10. Headphone power output :10mW max

Yup! Everything is quite hush hush on this product. But one thing's for sure is that it sounds great with IEMs :)!

I specifically asked about the DAC but they want to keep in private, and we do respect that.

Although the Astrapi works well for many platforms, where it shines is with the Apple products. As they worked
with Apple to make sure their product was 100% supported by Apple products for true high resolution.

I use personally use it for my cheap Elephone P2000 :D but am jealous of those who have Samsungs or Android
5.0 with full native USB audio support!

I can understand the company not disclosing information about the dac chip, but knowing the power ratings is essential to knowing which headphones will be compatible with this product. do they really not have any more information about power? a max power rating without even an impedance doesn't tell you anything. at least a rms power with an impedance right?

I tried it on an iPhone 6 and it did not work with ALAC files via the default app. I am told it will work with FLAC via different apps like Onkyo HF or FLAC Player.

Hey guys, I'm actually field-testing a Cozoy Astrapi right now, and it sounds pretty darned good.

Initial impressions running TIDAL via an iPad > Astrapi > Sony MDR-Z7, the sound is very detailed and musically balanced with excellent dynamics.  And for a USB-stick form factor (i.e. lots of miniture components packed together), this has a surprisingly low noise floor.

As twister6 pointed out in his review, this is done by the same people who did the Shozy Alien, which I also like very much - especially in terms of sound quality.  But unlike the Alien, this is much quieter.  Also, with this, I get the benefit of using the screen/UI of whatever I plug into it.  I must say, I'm very impressed with it so far.

  No hiss with IEMs?

I don't have any high sensitivity (or low impedance) IEMs for testing.  Wish someone with SE846 would chime in since those are usually a subject of "a lot of hissing"

It should be able to play anything (at least on my unit), sometimes there will be software crash on Apple even with their official peripherals so do reboot and try.
And do try to play DSD tracks on the onkyo hf app with all the options ticked (dop/''high hardware usage eq'' etc

Will try that app after I get home, thanks for the pointer!

Thanks for the reply but I'll pass. I have more than a handful of MFI DAC amps and pairing them with my iPod classics and iPhones and iPads, they have never crashed once or needed rebooting.

This is entirely different in terms of product nature actually, this one relies only on the power from Apple device which is way more complicated than many
Doesn't mean it sounds better/worse but the purpose of the chip is dedicated to such uses.
